Prom Has Come & Gone

My dad and I got to watch Natalie participate in the 110 hurdles, 100m, 4x200m and the long jump.  She wasn’t happy with her results but we sure were happy to be there and proud of her effort.

Danny finally tried the 200m and did well with a time of 23.35 seconds.  He is excited for the meet next week, where if he can shave off half a second he will qualify for regionals.  Danny was also part of the 4x100 and they too have high hopes for next week.

Most of my family participated in Prom in different ways this year.  Michelle’s leadership class was in charge of planning and working Prom, where she even got to serve Kate a dirty soda.  I love that this Utah trend of nonalcoholic beverages has finally reached the next state over and that the year Michelle was helping with Prom she had a sibling there.  I helped out at After Prom from 9pm to a little after midnight, when Michelle and the other SCLA students got back from the Prom venue.  It was fun to feel helpful and check in students for the event except now I hate balloons.  lol

Danny went to Jane’s prom since this is her senior year and he has the potential to go to our home school’s next year.  Hubby took him suit shopping and was able to snag him a great pair of shoes at Nordstrom Rack that were originally 3x the price.  How cute are they together?  They had so much fun.

Kate continued her tradition of going to school dances with a group of friends.  When I asked her why she and Will weren’t going together she let me know I wasn’t the first person to ask that.  I love that they have been friends for years.  I will miss seeing her friends, like Will,  that are going far away to college.  Their graduation day is only getting closer!

That Saturday the house felt so empty.  Kate, Danny, and Michelle had already left to get ready for Prom, it wasn't time for me to help yet, and Hubby and Natalie weren’t back from her softball tournament.  Our house was literally built for children and just feels too big without any children in it!  I was so glad when it my and my dad’s turn to go to the softball games the next day.  I did need to get things done on Saturday but would much rather enjoy the beautiful spring weather cheering on this wonderful softball team, even if we both got sunburned a little.  This tournament was a little different where it was pool play both days so everyone was guaranteed 6 games.  AG's mom, C, pointed out that during the last 8 days these girls played 12 games and had 4 practices in addition to things like, um, going to school all day.  They are tough!  Perhaps that fact is why coach canceled practice for next Saturday and told them all to enjoy a day off over the weekend.

P.S.  After wearing a boot for 8 weeks I am finally in a brace and going to physical therapy.  Our main goals are to regain mobility and strengthen my calf muscle that atrophied.  So far I am very impressed with the way I have an app that shows me how to do my exercises and logs them for the PT to see.  And when my foot gets so tight I can’t do my exercises our hot tub comes in handy because I can do most of my exercises with my feet submerged in the water after I’ve let them warm up for 5 minutes.  Meanwhile, Hubby is going to Orange Theory again and I am so impressed at what he can do that I cannot!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
