Sporty Spring & Sweet 16

I am amazed at how quickly our flowers and trees have bloomed this year.  It usually doesn't look and feel like this until Mother's Day.  Danny was actually very worried that he was going to melt at his first track meet of the season but luckily it was a spring like day instead of a summer like one.  I didn't plan ahead so didn't switch days with my coworker and missed it, but Danny has a new personal time in the100m of 12.04 after only being able to go to practice a few times.  He is excited to really give track some effort this year and see if he can get below 12 seconds.

Michelle had two tennis matches two days in a row.  The first match got cut off due to weather so although she and her partner were winning, it isn't official unless they play to eight and win by two.  But, as her parents, it's a win in Hubby and my book.  The next day the weather was gorgeous and she was nervous because the school they were playing is great at tennis but she and Ella won by A LOT and were so excited!  The entire JV team went out to eat to celebrate because her match wasn't the only upset.  I'm so sorry I missed it.  Not due to work or taking Natalie to softball this time, but because I got the time wrong.  I swear half my brain is in my broken ankle.  But, even with a broken ankle I was able to shop party favors for her birthday bash and she did such a good job planning it.  (I must say Michelle and Hubby did the real work.)  The party goers made flower crowns outside, Hubby made them hamburgers for dinner, they played a mystery game Bess made, spent time in the hot tub and watched a movie.  Half the girls spent the night and four of them went hiking with the hiking club the next morning.  What a wonderful way to celebrate a wonderful girl!

Oh, and she passed her driving test before the party began so we now have five drivers at our house!  She soon used the car to drive herself to and from school/tennis and Leadship Longmont. It’s so nice to have that added flexibility.  But, both Hubby and I did a lot of driving the next Saturday with Hubby taking Michelle and some friends to the State Science Olympiad competition a couple hours south of us (and he stayed to help) while I took Natalie an hour north for softball practice and then south to a birthday party at Too Golf. Thank goodness Danny could take himself to Pilates class with the football team. I have a lot of photos I could share for that one but I’ll only share the group. Lol

From the Sci Oly sponsors:
In the first year of competing at state 3 years ago, we finished 27th at state. In our second year, we finished 22nd at state. This year our teams performed the best that they have ever performed and finished in 11th and 17th at state. We are so proud of how the program continues to improve each year and will have a goal of continuing to improve as we develop the program.”

Photos from earlier in the week: home tennis match that my friend Shelly and I got to watch, from when Hubby and I watched Project Hail Mary in IMAX on a date, and when I got to see Natalie get a Pillar Award at the 4.0 breakfast.  Not pictured: Michelle’s away match, Hubby and I going out to eat at Nana’s with S. & K.T., and Natalie having her best friend over for a sleepover.

And Danny reached his track goal before I updated the blog: Hubby and I got to see Danny run the 100m in 11.76 seconds!  It was so cold outside we were wrapped in a blanket and Hubby got himself hot chocolate and a cup o’ noodles at the concession stand but luckily I brought a winter coat so wasn’t as uncomfortable.  We were all glad when the 4x100 was over so we could go home and be comfortable.  I am going to be bored when spring sports end!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
