Celebration, Devastation, and Track Meets

Hubby and Danny attended the baseball banquet while I took Natalie to softball.  Sounds like a lot of work went into the event in order to honor the boys, especially the varsity team, and the coaches.  I ended up being in charge of the coach's plaques with RA after I mentioned there were great options on Etsy in the parent group text.  Lesson learned.  lol

On Tuesday my parents and I got some bad news from the veterinarian.  They had taken Piper in because they noticed she had lost a lot of weight rapidly.  X-rays showed a giant tumor taking up most of her abdominal cavity, squishing her digestive system to the point it was almost nonfunctional.  They called me and Michelle drove me over to join them before her tennis match she was about to leave for.  Long story short, surgery would be very risky and was unlikely to save her life for the long term.  So, we made an appointment to have her put down on Thursday and that evening they spent time with Piper at our house so everyone could say goodbye.  We are beyond sad to lose her after only seven years but she was happy until the very end and went peacefully.

In happier news, that same day Natalie attended her final track meet of the season and I got to watch all her events: long jump, 110 hurdles (with a time of 23.47), and the 100m dash (at 16.75 seconds).  She had to leave before the 200m so that Hubby could take her to her softball scrimmage while I was with my dad and Piper.  I also got to catch up with KD, who I haven't gotten to hang out with since M & Z did competitive hip hop together so that was a great way to pass the time between events and cheer N & B on in their efforts.

On Friday I got to watch another track meet, this time at the high school level.  It was amazing to see how many schools were participating!  Danny was on the 4x100 team again (43.82 seconds) and ran the 200m for a 2nd time and coming in 6th place out of literally 100 runners with a time of 22.78 seconds.  By the time he ran in the 15th heat it was dark and chilly and windy, totally different weather from the relay, but he still managed to set himself another personal record.  I think the thing I like most about track is you are competing against yourself.  It's also fun to see students I know for all different reasons just because there are so many people participating in track and field.

On Saturday we had a work party at E's house to say goodbye to L, who is going to be working at her daughter's school next year, and P, who is retiring after working since 1989.  We will miss them both but can't help but be excited for them and their new adventures.  Such a neat group of ladies in this photo!

After the work party I came home, wrapped a gift, and Hubby and I headed to AW's wedding reception.  It was so sweet and lovely.  They did such a wonderful job decorating and I can see why they wanted to borrow both of our ladders!  Congratulations to the beautiful bride and her groom.  Now my friend can hopefully rest for a while after all that preparation.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
