Thanksgiving 2023

With an entire week off of school and our plans to visit family canceled... due to Danny making the JV basketball team as a freshman, Kate not wanting to miss her best friend's birthday party, Hubby being needed at work for two overnight shifts, our extended family not actually eating Thanksgiving dinner together while we would be there and Natalie and I getting car sick... we just had to tell Michelle we weren't going after all.  So, we found a couple things to do.  Natalie and I used my library card to go to our local museum for free and we enjoyed remembering the permanent exhibits and explored the traveling one. It was art related to agriculture and at times it gave me a Meow Wolf vibe but we both enjoyed using light to make artwork the most.  It gave us something nice to do while Danny was at basketball practice and the teenage girls were working on their beauty rest. This week was also a time to cross some items off the to do list.  Michelle and I really wanted...

Happiness Overload

It’s so much fun to have to show your driver’s license at Home Depot in order to buy science supplies for your middle schooler.  No really, it was fun to have to explain to her why you have to be 18 to buy spray paint — except I didn’t tell her about the sniffing part, just the graffiti part.  Lol. I was lucky enough to actually watch this rocket launch because her class was outside during 7th grade lunch and that’s the lunch I help with. The first weekend of November was absolutely lovely and Hubby and I were able to get so much yard work done on Saturday, which I found quite satisfying but Hubby said he would be more satisfied if we had watched a movie. Lol. Michelle and Natalie got to jump in the leaves before we bagged them up to be taken away by the city Monday morning. With getting so much done on Saturday, after Church and before a movie we (Hubby, Michelle, Natalie, and I) took Maisie on a one mile walk.  Kate was studying for her chemistry test with a friend and ...

Halloween Week

I was convinced my 4th child didn’t have to go to the middle school “showcase of learning” but she mentioned that she might be sick the day they get to visit in the spring so we should take advantage now. Natalie was so impressive and took the opportunity very seriously while having the best guide she could ask for, her 8th grade sister.  Michelle helped her learn where the different areas of the school were, took her to everywhere Natalie wanted to go, and introduced her little sister to her favorite teachers. Natalie even got to try out a half size cello and Michelle is trying to contain her excitement about Natalie potentially following in her orchestra footsteps. A couple nights later the three of us were back at the middle school, this time to watch “Legally Blonde the Musical Jr.” I was so impressed with how well A did as a Delta Nu, T did as the professor, and D did as Emmett.  It was a fun take on a great story. While we were at the musical, Kate was heading to a Hallo...

The End of Fall Ball & Hill House + Some Fun

Oh my goodness, it was so fun to be with these cute girls at the Era Tour movie. A’s mom bought tickets in the very back row and only one other person was at the  2:40 showing with us so when the song “22” came on and the girls started dancing, we let them dance away. It was so much fun to feel like we had gotten great seats at a concert for a steal of a deal and close to home. Saturday was Hubby’s turn to go to softball while I stayed home with the rest of the kids to give high schoolers rides to or from friend’s houses and to help Michelle bury Marshmallow. Yes, plans changed because it turns out the cemetery won’t let you bury pets in your estate until your property is completely paid off.  So we let Michelle decide between having the rabbit cremated or to bury Marshmallow in the flower bed she had taught him to stay in when he was out of his hutch. Michelle opted for the flower bed, which I thought was a wonderful choice. We dug feet and feet deep and I even got a blister ...

Falling for Fall

Danny finally got to have his hair permed!  After waiting another two weeks for his hair to grow long enough to wrap around the rods, our hairdresser worked so hair to make sure Danny got what he wanted. Hubby purchased and installed a wonderful, huge hammock for us to help fill the empty space on our porch. Maisie keeps looking for Marshmallow but it’s getting down to a glance on her way to going on a walk instead of searching. Pictured here is Natalie finishing up reading The Lightning Thief before school. It feels like fall with chilly mornings and evenings with warmth and sun in the middle of the day. The deciduous trees are beginning to change color and excitement is growing for Halloween to come.  Oh, and I finally finished listening to the book Dune !  I think it took me seven weeks to finish it. Now I’m so ready to watch both of the movies when part two hits the theaters (now delayed until spring due to the writers & actors strike).  Michelle is glad tha...
