It’s so much fun to have to show your driver’s license at Home Depot in order to buy science supplies for your middle schooler. No really, it was fun to have to explain to her why you have to be 18 to buy spray paint — except I didn’t tell her about the sniffing part, just the graffiti part. Lol. I was lucky enough to actually watch this rocket launch because her class was outside during 7th grade lunch and that’s the lunch I help with.
The first weekend of November was absolutely lovely and Hubby and I were able to get so much yard work done on Saturday, which I found quite satisfying but Hubby said he would be more satisfied if we had watched a movie. Lol. Michelle and Natalie got to jump in the leaves before we bagged them up to be taken away by the city Monday morning.
With getting so much done on Saturday, after Church and before a movie we (Hubby, Michelle, Natalie, and I) took Maisie on a one mile walk. Kate was studying for her chemistry test with a friend and Danny was at the rec center but the weather was beautiful and no one was at the dog park so Maisie got to take a break in there for a little bit. She loves jumping up on the picnic tables and smelling around.
The fist middle school orchestra concert of the school year was truly enjoyable, as expected. I am always amazed at how the different grades progress so much so fast. I was happy to buy flowers for Michelle to give to her favorite teacher at the end of the performance. I was able to catch the proud hug my dad gave her before she gave the flowers away too. It might be my favorite picture of the two of them together. (My mom was there too but is still recovering from her shoulder surgery. Hubby and Natalie were there as well but apparently I was bad at taking photos.)

On Saturday morning Hubby helped with a ward service project by helping a widow with yard work in order to help get her property put on the market. Meanwhile, I got our back and side yards ready for winter. It feels good to have it done but I rather enjoy working in the yard. Especially when we had such nice weather to be outside in and the book I am listening to was finally getting good. (Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Yes, my reading books that are turned into Apple TV shows continues.)
In the afternoon Hubby took Kate to her driver’s license test. She was nervous and we had heard of more than one teen failing the test the first time. But Kate did great! She passed her very first try! We are so proud of her and now we enter a world where half of our family can drive cars all by themselves. Tuesday morning she drove herself to school for the first time and we were so very proud of her! She also drove Danny to and from his basketball tryouts even though I said I wanted to pick him up on my way back from book club. It was neat to see her wanting to do that. Kate also paid her own money to get him food at Wendy’s when he asked her to!
While Kate was at her driver’s test, I was taking Danny to his last basketball lesson before high school tryouts. I got a little worried when he seemed to come down sick over the weekend. We were worried that if he stayed home from school he wouldn’t be allowed to participate in the tryouts. So we gave the poor kid DayQuil to be able to go to school and NyQuil to be able to sleep at night but soon realized he wasn’t just fighting something off and needed to stay home from school on day three of tryouts. Well, the rest must have done him good because they offered Danny a spot on the JV team! He was so excited. He really really wanted to be on the JV team, I think partially because Kate set the bar there when she was a freshman for volleyball. She was so supportive and even went back to the school after he met with the coaches to pick him up since I was still at the middle school. I feel like there is so much happiness for my teenagers right now! Honestly, as I watched him being able to play in his first scrimmages I kind of felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. Could this really be happening? Can we really enjoy this or is it going to be short lived? I decided to just enjoy every moment we could.
Speaking of high school, I bought tickets for Michelle and I to go see the play the theater department was putting on to see if she would be interested in trying it out next year. Oh my goodness, it was so good! That play was called Game of Tiaras and it was a Game of Thrones and Disney princess mash up that was hilarious. We laughed out loud too many times to count. I think it was a tragedy because only one princess out of eight survived but the way they did things definitely turned it into a comedy. For instance, they had a character that went around with red streamers to tape “blood” to people when they got hurt. Such a great running gag.
