Falling for Fall

Danny finally got to have his hair permed!  After waiting another two weeks for his hair to grow long enough to wrap around the rods, our hairdresser worked so hair to make sure Danny got what he wanted.

Hubby purchased and installed a wonderful, huge hammock for us to help fill the empty space on our porch. Maisie keeps looking for Marshmallow but it’s getting down to a glance on her way to going on a walk instead of searching. Pictured here is Natalie finishing up reading The Lightning Thief before school. It feels like fall with chilly mornings and evenings with warmth and sun in the middle of the day. The deciduous trees are beginning to change color and excitement is growing for Halloween to come.  Oh, and I finally finished listening to the book Dune!  I think it took me seven weeks to finish it. Now I’m so ready to watch both of the movies when part two hits the theaters (now delayed until spring due to the writers & actors strike).  Michelle is glad that I’m finally ready to begin A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which she has been recommending for months.  Those are definitely two very different novels!

Since Danny was sick last weekend, it was my turn to go to both flag football and softball this Saturday. Luckily both were in town and Danny’s games were finished before Natalie even had to start getting ready.  Danny did great on defense and even got to play quarterback. They easily won the first game but let the second game get away from them and lost by one touchdown. I think it was their first loss of the season and everyone on our side of the field was just surprised.  As it turned out, these were the last games of the season.  We thought we had a couple more weeks to play but our coach made the decision to opt out of the league due to some things that were happening behind the scenes I was not aware of.  I trust Coach Bill completely so whatever he says is fine with me.  They had one more practice on Tuesday for some closure and being active in perfect weather.  Although I am a little disappointed in the change of plans, Danny doesn’t seem to be bothered a bit.

I took Danny and C. to Taco Bell since by then it was about 2:30pm and then we had a little bit of time before Natalie needed to start getting ready for softball. But first the girls cracked me up by playing pirates on our new hammock and humming the Hans Zimmer theme music.

Natalie’s first time up to bat she got a solid hit and also helped get an out playing shortstop. Her second time at bat she struck out swinging but did an amazing job constantly backing up her teammates in the field.

The second game began as the sun started to set behind the mountains. Natalie got walked her first time up at bat and we were both glad to have hoodies (and I went out to the car to get my skirt blanket thing to keep watching).  She never got the chance to bat again but played all sorts of different positions like 1st, 2nd, Right Field and Center.

Ten years ago we took this picture of Natalie when she was six months old. We are still celebrating half birthdays around here so Natalie and I made her vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting to mark the day. I am so lucky to be this girl’s mom!

Natalie was also a super helper as we got Michelle ready for her first performance as Eleanor in The Haunting of Hill House. Amazing how these hot rollers from 1998 still work!  Hubby and I decided to go to the very fist and very last performances so that we could see the difference between the beginning and the end. I think Hubby got a kick out of me getting upset when Eleanor was having a freak out and I can honestly tell you that the ending was very hard for me to listen to as well.  Michelle must be a good actress!

Monday night my youngest and my boy were putting in the extra work for softball and basketball. Danny had been wanting more one on one time to get ready for tryouts next month and Natalie was invited to try out a camp by her softball bestie, A. They lucked out because N & A were the only girls there. They got lots of hitting time in and even learned how to bunt!

My mother had surgery on her shoulder the next day so we have been taking care of Piper while my dad takes care of my mom. The surgeon said that it was very successful and that after she heals her shoulder should be much better. My children were all given instructions to not have anyone over to the house and I bought a new lead for when Piper is in our backyard. So far so good but we are watching her like a hawk!  And look at how beautiful this sunrise was when I let the puppies out first thing in the morning!

School has been kind of crazy everywhere with special things going on for everyone. I am so grateful that after all the parent teacher conferences I attended this week and all the back and forth to activities and having Piper over that the kids and I have a four day weekend to look forward to.  Poor Hubby. If only he could have the same schedule as us and still get paid what he does.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
