Natalie's team had another tournament the weekend before the last week of school. Since Hubby didn’t get to see Michelle’s last orchestra concert, we had him go with her the first day and I got to take her the second day. They did wonderfully the first day of pool play, basically slaughtering the competition. (The coaches said the team will be signing up for A level instead of B level so the girls can play against better teams.) The next day our team barely lost and were done after one game. We couldn’t be too sad, though, because the expected storm came in as we were in the parking lot to leave. After dropping by the outlet mall and grabbing Cane’s on the way home, we felt like the drive had been worth it. (Natalie loves softball and her team and coaches. It is always worth the drive.)
My parents got to join Hubby in watching Michelle’s last LYS concert and I heard it was amazing. They played Bizet, Dvorak, and Beethoven so not like I was going to hear any complaints.
Kate the Great got to be done with school before the rest of us and I was so grateful she let me take a last day of high school photo of her and that I happened to have off work so I could volunteer for the senior breakfast and attend the walk out. After the breakfast the seniors put on their caps and gowns, practice for the graduation ceremony, get on buses, and visit all the feeder schools. So Kate got to walk through her elementary school and middle school and Natalie was delighted to get a hug from her sister. She says that if Danny doesn’t give her a hug next year we should make him move out. Lol. Then after the grads have visited the schools they come back to the high school and walk around and out of there for the last time. Family members line up outside to cheer and take a photo or two. I was glad to be there. I hope doing all this in the rain ensured lovely weather for their ceremony.
The night of the senior walk out was also Athletic Awards Night. I figured between Danny’s basketball team being the best public school in the state and the 4x200 relay team making All Conference it would be worth going. Danny did not and he was probably right but for me it was neat to see so many students I know be recognized. Some of them we have known for over a decade and I was happy to sit there for two hours and clap at the appropriate times but goodness, our high school auditorium is sooo uncomfortable. Luckily the Track Banquet a couple days later was not only in the cafeteria that has a lovely view of the mountains but there was also food. lol Coach R knows how to run an event like that. It was well organized and she knew how to keep it moving along while all the different track and field coaches took the time to say something nice about all the seniors and all the spotlighted athletes. It was so nice and I have to say I think I was lucky because it sounded like it was way better than the two banquets Hubby went to. We did let him get in the photo when we got home. And this photo will also have to do for Danny's last day of school photo because I neglected to get one the next day for his real last day of school. And one for me as well. And by the time I got home from work Natalie was already in her softball gear and we needed to get out the door to be at her scrimmage on time so here is a picture of Natalie's last day of 7th grade after softball.
Michelle finished her finals a day early so that she could attend Leadership Longmont on the real last day of school. She got to do all sorts of fun things learning about emergency response services, including going atop the fire truck's ladder at full extension. Good thing she can handle heights! That night she returned to school to play for senior night. Her orchestra teacher was very grateful for the students who were willing to do so.
Some goodbyes are more intense than others. Natalie and I will be returning to the middle school next year. Danny and Michelle will be returning to the high school. But Kate is saying goodbye to peers she has been going to school with since kindergarten. So many emotions. So glad she will be going to school less than an hour away from home with good friends attending the same university. Next up: graduation!
