Middle Children Week 🎻 🎾 πŸ€

Without Danny and Michelle, this blog post wouldn't exist!  First up was Michelle's LYS concert, where she got to play pieces like Adoration and Simple Gifts but liked playing Dvorak best.  She was thrilled to play those pieces.  Hubby and I loved being there in such a nice auditorium.  A couple days later was her high school concert, where my parents were able to join the two of us.  One of the perks was getting to hear the pieces they are planning on playing in Orlando next week, including Pirates of the Caribbean.  Since Michelle chose not to join them for their spring break trip it was fun for me to get to hear what they were planning.

Michelle is so happy to be on the tennis team again this year and she and her parter, E, won their first match 8-3.  They have strengths that compliment each other well and it was neat to see them working together on the court.  Hubby didn't like the fact we had to be such polite fans, my dad was fine with being quiet the entire time, and I decided to start quietly clapping when our girls did great.

Don't worry, Hubby got to cheer so much at Danny's Final Four basketball game the next day until he almost lost his voice!  The game was amazing.  We knew these teams were going to be well matched and we were confident Creek could punch their ticket to the state championship game but they still had to do the work.  And they did.  The teams were neck and neck, then their team pulled ahead, then our team caught up, then finally, even with some very questionable calls, Creek pulled ahead to win the game 51-47. Check out this Denver Post article but fun fact the article won't tell you: it was LA's 18th birthday.  What a memorial birthday for him!  Oh, and it also didn't mention that the school's spirit bus had a window broken by the wind throwing a rock at it on the way down and had to wait for another bus to pick them up and finish the drive down to Denver.  Luckily they still made it before the game began.  AND later we found out our #3 scorer (CB) had broken his wrist during the game!!! So much excitement for a Thursday.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

How amazing is it that a team ranked 13th in the state got to play in the championship game? Lutheran was tough competition. They are a private school that is known to recruit players and already had 4 state championships behind them.  Our guys were able to keep it close at first but eventually pulled ahead and stayed ahead.  We definitely knew we were in trouble when our #2 scorer (BG) fouled out in the third quarter.  The team made a valiant effort but came away so so so disappointed. The parents waited and cheered/gave hugs to the kids on their way to the bus. Coach M had the boys take pictures with the runner up trophy.  I liked when Hubby said, “There is no shame in losing to a team that good.”  I had told him that it was so neat that he scored points (he made 2 free throws) in the state championship game. I hope these players know how proud all the parents are of them and win or lose, they are so very loved.

From the team parent email:

This season also included several historic milestones and accomplishments for the program. The team captured the Pueblo County Tournament Championship and earned the St. Vrain Valley School District Area Championship by defeating every other team in our district. In addition, this was the first time in school history that Silver Creek basketball reached the Great 8, the Final 4, and the State Championship game. These achievements reflect the hard work, belief, and commitment of our players and coaches throughout the season.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
