Last Week of School

After missing three days of school due to illness Natalie was happy to have a few more days with her teacher and classmates.  On Monday she came home from school saying she really wanted to carpool with A after missing softball the week before.  How could I say no?

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to have the day off work so I could attend field day.  So much fun to see them laugh. If you don't fall down during the three legged race, is it really a three legged race?  Such a great class of kids with their wonderful teacher.

Since our middle school has a habit of celebrating their 8th graders on Wednesday it is expected your 8th grader doesn't show up to school on Thursday.  They would literally be doing nothing.  So, Danny got to be done with school a full day earlier than all his sisters.  So my last day working with my 8th graders (and my little buddy that's moving out of state) was my only son's last day at the middle school as well.  I must admit that there were a whole lot of emotions inside me that day.  Mostly gratitude and (sad) goodbyes.  Danny wasn't sure if he wanted to go to the 8th grade celebration but I'm glad that he did. And glad W's mom there to capture this great photo! Seems like they had a great time and some of his friends walked home with him and spent time hanging out at our house afterwards.  It really started to feel like summer after that.

Thursday meant Kate's last day of 9th grade.  She had purchased gifts for some of her teachers and passed them out along with taking her algebra final.  She got to leave at 11am and so was the first one done with school (but also had the earliest arrival time).

Michelle's last day of 7th grade sounded pretty fun with stories of playing things like mafia and other games along with the school wide picnic.  They also built bridges in science class to see with group's bridge could hold up the most sand without breaking.  Sounds like there were some pretty impressive poundage numbers there.

Natalie is still at a school where I am allowed to come party on the last day with her, for which I am thrilled.  The school wide picnic is always a crazy good time that is hard to leave.  Lucky for her she got to go to a last day of school party with a friend and looks like she had a blast tagging along!  And I think my love language is letting me take your picture/sending me photos of my kids. lol

I also wanted to mention the wonderful news that my coworker had her baby the last week of school.  She is such a cutie (I've seen lots of pictures) and I am so happy for J.  I hope I get to meet this little one in person soon.  J was a wonderful coworker and of course I am thrilled she gets to be a stay at home mom like she wants but we all miss her so much at the school.  We will also miss the speech language pathologist, who is moving away and both SR & TS as they move on to different careers.  Honestly I wanted to cry as we all at lunch together on Friday.  Apparently I get really attached to people and I am scared of trying to do my job without them.  I will take that (and the severe migraine I got) as supreme compliments to the greatness of the people I have gotten to work with the past two school years.

My kids all had a great time not going to school on Friday and Saturday.  Kate went out with friends to do things such as paddle boarding, Danny hung out with his bestie traveling to friends houses and trying out public transportation, Michelle got to rent a cello for the summer and spend some of her Barnes & Noble gift card after eating at her favorite pizza place and Natalie ran around the neighborhood so much with friends we sometimes wondered where she was.  All in all everyone seems ready for summer!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
