The very first day of March found K and I waking up at 5am to head to Colorado Springs for a volleyball tournament at Doherty High School. What a high school! K made some really good contributions and I’m so proud of her. Sadly, I began to feel sick while watching her play and a couple days later found myself getting an IV to solve for dehydration. I was quite grateful we made it home safely and Hubby could hold down the fort while I went to bed early.
Hubby also did a wonderful job helping my boy finish his Inquiry Expo project for school. D chose to make a water bottle to turn sea water into potable water using a camp fire. I thought it was really neat how it turned out and as I looked around at the projects after doing Thursday folders, D’s was one of my favorites. Of course, he’s my favorite boy in the whole world, so I might be biased.
Also that week we had Girl Scouts at our house with a Hawaiian theme to earn our Flowers and Social Butterfly badges, Activity Days where we made “Scripture Cookies” and had a read-a-thon while K and the Young Women had a spa night, volleyball practice x2, M’s eurythmy assembly at the Longmont Museum, Girl Scout cookie sales ending with me collecting and depositing the last of our troop money and dropping the receipts at the cookie mom’s house, more doggie classes and day care for Piper and a dog park visit for Maisie, Hubby and M having dentist check ups, I had my first coaching call with Michelle Madrid-Branch, outfitted D and N for baseball and softball (so fun!), K went to Get Air with her volleyball team, D tried out for a competitive baseball team, K had appointments with both Ashley and Dr. C on the same day, and did I mention the weather was absolutely beautiful on Saturday? We roasted hot dogs over a fire for dinner! 72° and sunny on March 7th in Colorado is something I can get very happy about.
We began putting the kids to bed early a few days before the time change and it really helped. It was nice to see a beautiful sunrise our first day with different clocks. Also that weekend my boy was invited to scrimmage with a club team some of the boys from his basketball team are on. He said it was a lot of fun and hopes he will be invited to join the team permanently.
P.S. I was thinking about something that happened when I was around M's age. Once in elementary school both of my parents got a horrible stomach flu. The members of our ward’s Relief Society jumped into action, bringing me dinners so I could eat while my parents recovered. I thought that was super nice since I wasn’t feeling ill at all. One Sister, though, I especially remembered. When I answered the doorbell that day, there stood a beautiful but frazzled looking woman. She apologized profusely that she wasn’t able to make me the food she had wanted and held out a pizza box for me to take. I could tell she felt terrible about the gift she was giving me, but why? I loved pizza! It was my favorite meal any member of Relief Society ever brought to me! Now, as I am the one being called on to make dinners for members of the ward, I remember that it doesn’t matter exactly what meal I take over to another person’s house. What matters is that I show up and care. And who knows? Maybe that day all I can do is bring a pizza, that is the kind of food they like most.
