Finishing Up February

This was M’s last time having an entire week off school when her siblings didn’t so I wanted to make sure we did something special. I wanted to stay close due to our other obligations that week such as Hip Hop and Activity Days so I chose to take her down to The Great Wolf Lodge in CO Springs for the night. We did everything there was to do and I’m pretty sure we spent just as much time playing Magic Quest as we spent in the water park! It was a great little overnight to supplement a play date with her best friend, planning her birthday party, watching Goblet of Fire, cleaning out her desk, and beginning Order of the Pheonix. We also had too much fun at IKEA on the way home and bought 4 new stools for our kitchen island (since the puppies have managed to break two of them).

The day M and I returned from Great Wolf Lodge Hubby and D headed for Utah to spend two skiing/snowboarding and watch two Jazz basketball games with family. They had a great trip even if I-80 got shut down due to wind and they had to take the long way home. While they were out of town K got to hang out with Emma at the rec center and the O’s house while N joined M and I at our Girl Scout troop’s ice skating party. The weather was perfect and we had so much fun!

The boys got home in time to wake up our puppies’ 1st birthday. M, N, and I had made dog, bone and ball shaped sugar cookies on Sunday after church to help us celebrate. I must say they are naughty little dogs but we love them. Thanks to the new dog training we are going through I do have hope they will be good dogs someday.

In other news, D is getting ready for middle school! The 5th graders had their field trip, brought home their elective packets to make choices and N came with me so D could try out the clarinet, trumpet, tuba and flute. He hasn’t decided whether or not he wants to be in band and play the clarinet or take more of a variety of electives like PE, computer science, FCS and art. I’m sure he will enjoy whatever he decides.

The last weekend of February we partied hardy. On Friday we hosted K’s volleyball team for dinner, making hair ties and creating posters to help cheer the girls on at their next tournament. It was a great time and I must say Hubby’s idea to get Qdoba catering was amazing. I was able to go to the chiropractor, clean the house, take Piper to the dog park, help KT prepare for Mary’s birthday party and pick up the kids from school like normal without having to worry about making dinner for over 10 people. And there was so much left over that when we had the missionaries over the next day we only had to refill the rice and chicken. So, when Hubby came home saying his basketball team wanted a party after their last game the next day we said we would order pizza and the team could provide the rest.  No problem!

D’s last game of the season was a good one! I could feel my heart beating fast as the two teams were neck in neck, both wanting desperately to end with a win. D’s team was able to pull it off with a little help from a technical foul. I was so glad I was able to be there for that finish and see my husband coaching such an intense game. Made the team party at our house afterwards more fun to be victorious as well! It was the first time I got to hang out the parents and they were a great group. We had time to clean up and then take M to her play date and N to the birthday party (N really enjoyed the zoo themed birthday party based on the book Good Night, Gorilla), and then Hubby and I bathed the dogs and went grocery shopping while they were gone. Later we fed the missionaries and Hubby and D went to the SC basketball playoff game and they reported that was a really good game as well! Oh, and M began the 6th Harry Potter book that night.  Yes, she finished Order of the Pheonix in only two weeks.  One of the perks of having a week off school, I guess.  It was a good, busy leap day!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
