The Good Stuff

K joined a local volleyball team and loved it! Luckily she even had a friend on the team and she picked quite a bit up from her dad practicing with her. It is so fun to see her enjoying and excelling at a sport again. The spring season turned out to be pretty short and K was sad it ended so soon. She's already signed up for the fall with a friend she made in her class this year.

D wanted to give baseball a try, especially since some of his favorite friends were on the team and we used to live next to the head coach back in our old house. Our former neighbor is a great coach and D is picking up the game quickly. The team seems to be everything you would want for your son and I'm so glad I signed him up.  D also earned his 100 miles running!  He got a medal and has a picture up on the wall at school with the other children who have accomplished the same.  Yay, D!

M also got the idea to try something new from a friend in her 1st grade class. She attended a Young Rembrandts class for cartoons with Nora and loved it. M liked spending extra time with her friend, thought the teacher was the nicest teacher ever and I personally noticed a change in her artwork. That was certainly money well spent. M still attends dance class and book club at the M. family house every week as well. She is really enjoying the American Girl Caroline series and learning about the early 19th century. M has also fallen in love with the dance routine to Backstage's Spark they prepared for her dance recital.

D also chose a couple after school activities this spring. I think he would have let me sign him up for 3 different teams with 2 practices and a game every week. When he chose baseball I let him do a flag football and soccer class one day a week after school. I don't mind activities at the school a bit because we live within walking distance and there is no traffic to deal with at the 4:30 pick up.

Noticing the older 3 we're all signed up for what was mentioned above, I registered N for the same preschool sports class D had taken when he was younger. Same teacher! She wasn't a huge fan of trying new things but did like the idea of learning sports her siblings do or talk about. N says volleyball was her favorite but that may be because K told her to say that. (:

With all this plus Scouts, there were many nights Hubby and I had to divide and conquer or carpool and I felt like I just said hi and bye to him when he got home from work. It is crazy busy some days but I am glad my kids get to do things they want to do!

In other random news from this spring:

releasing mice caught in our garage (our first time having to catch mice at our new place)
D mowing the lawn -- I pay him $5 every time he does but he usually passes up the offer to make money to play with friends instead.  lol.

Raptor Run -- nothing like running a 5k the last weekend in April in snow!

One of my favorite memories from this spring I don't have a picture of!  I bought a playground ball and taught my older 3 how to play 4 square.  It was so much fun!  That was a moment like a dream come true -- what I thought being a mom would be like.  It was one glorious evening I hope not to forget.  Even though all of us forgot what happened to the $20 ball a week later.  I know I was careful where to put it but the kids must have gotten to it hen I wasn't looking and lost the brand new toy.  Uh oh.  Now that is what being a mom is like most of the time!

Star Wars day/volunteering at the school (write what I do in each class)

watching Natalie play with my old toy cars
M giving the new neighbors tulips and a card.  This sweetheart earned 75 miles at the school's 100 mile club -- she wanted that bracelet and she lost another tooth .

In early May we celebrated my parents' birthdays by taking them to eat at Red Robin.  I'm so glad they live in the same town as I do!

M also celebrated Sister Brady's life by attending her first funeral.  To say she had adored having Brother & Sister Brady as primary teacher would be a large understatement!  They did such a wonderful job preparing every week and loving those children with a pure love you would want to see in every grandparent.  My dad was worried how M would do and came with us but the family did a wonderful job and I was reminded just how uplifting LDS funerals are.  M knows that death is part of the Plan of Salvation our Father in Heaven created for us.  I could not have been more proud of her and happy she got to sit next to Brother Brady in Sacrament meeting the next day.   It was also a testimony to me that even though having FHE can be a nightmare for Hubby and I, it just might be worth it.  In preparation for D to be baptized, the 6 weeks before his big day we taught the children the 6 discussions we used to teach when we were missionaries.  It covered pretty much everything these kids need to know to be ready for this world.  I'm willing to do it all again when it is M and N's turn!

The same day as the funeral M was the only girl in her class at S's bday party.  We decided to take the entire family along to swim at the rec center and let her enjoy the party.  He loved that she came and the present she picked out for him. S is one of the boys I have watched gently play with her hair standing in line or in circle time. Awww.  We somehow ended up at TCBY but the time we were done.  How much can you sit in your cup?

I couldn't resist matching Minnie Mouse dresses on clearance and hope they still fit when we go on our next Disney Cruise!
3rd grade Mini Society was a blast -- so glad we went.  For their "store," K and her friend, C, made stress balls that they drew emojis on with Sharpies to sell.  All the 3rd graders had fake money they had earned and went around buying different items.  They learned first hand what sells and what doesn't and for which price.  (I also wanted to include a picture of one of K's culinary creations.  She is quite the creative genius.)One of my Mother's Day crafts brought home from school.  This one was from D and made me so happy I almost cried.  I'm so grateful I get to be his mom, even though he won't let me take many pictures of him anymore.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
