Boulder, Butterflies & Day Camp

Our first full week of summer vacation

My boy and I did the Bolder Boulder for the first time and loved it. He was a little too happy about all the free sports drinks they handed out and actually got a side stitch from drinking so much so early. We ended up walking most of the way due to it and he did things like go on a slip n slide as we went along. Here I had been worried about keeping up with him and instead I had to encourage him to keep going. I hadn't trained the way I wanted to due to my arm injury in January. It finally began to feel good again in May. I had to laugh after the 10k because the knee I hurt skiing in college that requires a knee brace was fine but the knee without a brace complained for a few days. Next time I went running I had knee braces on both knees and Hubby got to tease me about being a bionic woman.

A major battle took place on Tuesday when I decided to take the children to the Butterfly Pavilion and my oldest decided she wanted to stay home and do nothing all day. Luckily, once we got there she enjoyed herself. And we ate at Rusty Taco when we were done! So delicious! The children went bananas over the drinks and when M spotted one another day at Target she screamed she was so excited -- sure scared me for a second there since I think that's the first time she has ever screamed in a store. Lol.

Wednesday D began skateboarding day camp, K had her friend Q over to play, D and M had their first tutoring session of the summer (M continues with reading and D began handwriting), N had her last preschool sports class and D had a make up baseball game.

Thursday was the day Shelley O. and I had the Activity Day girls over to our house for a day camp from 9am to 4pm and it went marvelously. We did knot tying, bleach shirts, roasting hot dogs for lunch over the campfire, set up & took down tents, 2 service projects (an activity for the primary chorister & making pb&J sandwiches), skits (the best Good Samaritan skit ever), an impromptu dance party, and made jar candles. Then on the second day the girls car pooled to a lake and had fun there for a shorter amount of time (met at 10:30 & came home around 3pm). The girls felt cared about, had a blast, learned skills, crossed off a Faith in God requirement, and provided service. The girls were so happy to get a Day Camp like the boys but just for them!
A big thank you to my parents for picking D up from camp and bringing him to soccer for the afternoon while I was with the girls. M participated in all the activities and N clung to Reagan most of the time so she was easy to have around as well. When my mother wasn't helping taxi D, she was at my house helping with knots and crafts. I'm so glad S and I came up with the idea and that the girls and moms were happy! Since then, I have heard that many wards put on a day camp for their girls every summer and I can see why. I'm totally willing to help again next year. They were a delight and much easier than my GS troop. 😂

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
