Starting Summer

 Summer means hiking Boulder Canyon...

 homework...
funny texts to my spouse (this was about N)...
and playing at my parents house to change things up a bit.  On this day, D was at Indoor Soccer for the morning so we ate at Chick-Fil-A after picking him up.  We figured since my parent's house was so close we called Grandma and went to go visit.  I did a spring clean of the sandbox while my mother had activities for them to do inside.  Then they enjoyed the big backyard until Hubby texted to say he was on his way home.  Well, my dad had just gotten home from work and M was so sad to be leaving the house that she threw the biggest temper tantrum of her life.  I felt so bad for her.  After my dad and I eventually got her in the mini van to leave, this song came on the radio.  I felt like it was being broadcast just for us.  (For the record, D's biggest temper tantrum was not too long ago and was over having to come inside for dinner instead of continuing to trade Pokemon cards.)

We finally got to drop off our troop's GS cookies to our Home Town Heros, the Inn Between.  They help members of the community that used to be homeless and are now living in apartments.  These cookies will now be part of their pantry.  I must admit, I was tempted to buy the cookies back from the Inn Between since ours are all gone.  lol.
Dropping off cookies was the beginning to a mommy/daughter date for M.  Dunkin' and the Dollar Store.  It makes this girl happy!

Here's K's mom/daughter date:  Target!  She went shoe shopping of the first time in the women's section!  These are womens size 7 and they fit her great!  I think we were both shocked I am only 2 sizes above her now.  K is well on her way to the goal of being taller than me someday!  We also had a blast picking out new bedsheets, a blanket, pillow, and movie poster for her room.  She was sick of the way her room was decorated and gave up having me throw her a birthday party to pay for it and is also completely wiling to wait until next month to change her room around.  I was impressed and feel this little one isn't little anymore.  I am proud of how she is maturing -- she is growing up so fast.

Picnic on the front porch with her bee queen costume and sun hat.  She was a big hit at our presidency meeting and running errands with me while her siblings were at Camp Invention.

K's teacher was in charge of Camp Invention at their school this year, so we were willing to give it a try.  It was a bit windy on the walk home from school but I was so relieved to hear all about their day and how much they enjoyed it.  It's a STEM day camp for one week and I knew it would either be absolutely great or terribly boring.  I'm glad it's fun!
N was so happy to have her sisters back and that they played Duplos with her while boring mommy went back to doing laundry.
N went to Stacey's for 3 mornings the week of Camp Invention.  This way she would have something fun to do while I did things like catch up on the blog!
 Summer fashion!
Most weeks this summer Hubby will be working 4 10s so he can take Fridays off to be with the children and I.  This means he goes to work early in the morning -- often before all 4 of them are awake -- and comes home at dinner time.  The children are ok with it, especially since once in a while they get loving surprises like breakfast dishes being set out with cute little notes in them.  I am so grateful for a husband that is perfect for me and is such a good dad.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
