We convinced Hubby to take Friday off work and join us for Girl Scout Day at Elitch Gardens. We got there around 2pm and turns out GS Day ended at 1pm. It wasn't the right way to start the day, but we sure had a lot of fun! After working our way through kiddie land and eating an early (and disgusting) dinner, we cooled off by getting soaked in Disaster Canyon. We loved it! It was mine and Husband's and K's favorite ride of the day. Well, M hated it and the rest of us thought it was great. Luckily I had brought my biggest sweatshirt along and it served as a perfect dress for her. She got to pick out rides like Troika and Dragon Wing and was super happy once again. It was fun to ride rides we had never ridden before and watch N enjoy the Buckaroo for the first time. She liked the motorcycle ride best. And D's fav was the Sidewinder with Disaster Canyon coming in 2nd. We stayed until past bedtime, taking in as much as we could before heading home. We managed to finish listening to Magic Tree House's "Dolphins at Daybreak" before all 4 of our little ones fell asleep.
P.S. It cracks me up that K can handle all sorts of crazy rides but it is still the ferris wheel that totally pushes her to the edge. She begged to go on, though!
Saturday meant getting the pop up camping trailer ready for summer, packing, shopping, taking K to her good friend's birthday party, putting together D's bookcase, and having my parents over to celebrate Father's Day early. We got my dad an expansion pack for Ticket to Ride that has the United Kingdom on one side and Pennsylvania (where he's from) on the other. Hubby has been getting little things early but this day opened up 5 Disney Infinity characters -- there was a sale at GameStop that was buy 2, get 3 free. My son and I could not resist. I still claim the used copy of "Just Dance 2: Disney's Dance Party" I bought for our FHE on taking care of our bodies is way more fun.

Sunday I went early to practice again to sing as part of a group of returned sister missionaries, mothers of current missionaries, and the 4 future sister missionaries and their moms of our ward who report to their assigned missions this summer. It was so neat to be a part of! When I told Hubby I was invited to participate his eyes reddened. "Don't worry, I'm not leaving again!" It wasn't that. He was just so glad I had the opportunity to serve. Awww. After listening to two of our sister missionaries heading to South America, being a full time missionary was a big topic as we hiked the next morning. I found it interesting that K said she thought M and N should go but that she wasn't sure. D said he wasn't sure either but he really felt the spirit at our FHE about missionary work. He said he wanted to go because he had a good feeling about it after watching Season 1 Episode 1 of "The District." K said she will probably be like all of her aunts and not go. They are good people, so I can't argue with that. I could only hear my mother all over again as I told her it's ok if she doesn't go but once you decide not to, you can't go later when you're a mom and all of a sudden wish you had. All I know is that Hubby and I are both so glad we each went. But we do not know what God has in store for our little ones and we will leave it in His hands.
Yes, I mentioned hiking. After changing clothes and having a picnic at the church's pavilion we drove to a campsite we had never been to before called "Peaceful Valley." It really lived up to its name! Beautiful as any mountain campground bit so calm. There were only 15 sites, I think, and all was pretty quiet. Plenty of room to park the pop up tent trailer and the grounds were so well maintained. The camp host was just the right amount of friendly but not intrusive. Right next to our site was the perfect boulder for the children to play on. One side was jagged and like a set of stairs to go up and the other side was smooth like a slide. So fun I went down it a few times myself! Another source of site entertainment was the pump/well water. The kids had never used a pump to get their water before and had a blast working together to do so. During our hike Monday morning we stopped to dip our feet in a big stream of snow melt off. We tried to see how long we could keep our feet in the cold water. It felt so good to walk back to the camp with cold feet in dry socks and shoes. Playing in the water could be said to be the highlight of the entire trip. I know I want to go back and would highly recommend it! When I asked my family what they wanted to say about Peaceful Valley, M and D yelled "I love it!" N would have appreciated a place with no "big potties" -- aka latrines -- instead. Poor little one was afraid she might fall in. Worked out well for me because she insisted on having Daddy take her most of the time. Thanks, hon!
