what we do

We play with neighbors.  This is actually something to get used to.  Before, we had one set of neighbors to play with.  Now there are lots and a much safer street and a pocket park in the back.  Lots of play time.
Eat solid food.  She started to whine every time she saw us eating and loves loves loves baby food.  Her favorite is apple sauce, as recommended by Dr. R. when she had diarrhea.  We mix the applesauce with everything to help it go down.  We also mix in oatmeal cereal.  aka. cardboard.  lol.
Danny can write his name now!  This is a super big deal!
He is also on a soccer team for the first time and is quite good.  He gets pretty frustrated, though, because often he feels like he's playing 5 against 1 because some of his team members go the wrong way.

Danny has the cutest cheering section ever.

After one of Danny's soccer games, Grandpa had her walking around.  She now seems to think she should skip crawling.  Too cute to see them together.  Proud of Grandpa for working full time but we miss him.
We can see the hot air balloons even better from the new house!

Michelle took a an 8 week dance class this fall.  Last Friday was the final class.  She absolutely loved it, but, we found out through this 9am class downtown, that M is not a morning person after all.  She is usually so agreeable I didn't think anything of it.  The things you learn.  Speaking of learning, let me tell you about Kaelah's dance class.  I signed her up at a new studio with a class of 6 girls.  She knew 3 of them from church and liked them all.  K refused to go the first day of class because she didn't like having to wear a black leotard.  When I called up the place they said she could wear something else (but she didn't want to be the only one not in black) or just watch (but she didn't want to be the only one watching) so she didn't go.  I tried to get her to go for an hour & eventually she hid in her closet.  Our 10-year-old neighbor coaxed her when I offered everyone popsicles.  Yesh.  I may have finally met someone even more stubborn than I am.  In her defense, K says that she already spends too much time away from the baby at kindergarten.  She doesn't want to do anything else.  The 3 older children do, however, all enjoy going to Chiliaxed Kids.  Yoga must be much less stressful than dance.  It's what the class is there for.

Now may be a good time to mention how K's first parent/teacher conference went on 10/10 @ 4pm.  Two major points to tell about:
1.)  She aced the reading pre-test.  She scored 20/20 on the test she will be given at the end of the year.  I knew she was a smartie.  It is so fun to read with her at home.  I wish I had more time to do so.
2.)  The teacher is glad we gifted her a year.  She said it was obvious she missed being around her siblings.  I laughed and said maybe just her sisters.  I always like having a professional tell me I'm doing the right things for my children.  (;  K does seem to be making friends too and has even talked about 3 of the girls in her class to me at home on more than one occasion.  Yeah!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
