Oh, good golly sakes. What do you say about moving? Although we didn't go far, I felt like July was practically ruined by packing everything up. Luckily Lisa P. helped the children and I take a day off toward the end to go to Denver. We hit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the zoo, and the best splash pad we've ever seen. On the way home my little ones were so hungry we just had to stop by the Chick-Fil-A in Thorton, that just happened to have a cow wandering around. I've got true fans.
I can't talk about packing without mentioning our friend, Marcee H. Since I've never moved since having children, she was my right hand lady. A pro that told me what to do and helped me do it. Natalie got to know her so well, she was the only person our baby liked as much as us. That should tell you something! When Dan and I did the math we figured we should pay her $300. She wouldn't take a penny. And when I bought her a thank you present, she went out and bought me a birthday present. I've decided the only way I'll ever be able to truly thank her is if she moves, but I never want her to move away from me.
Here's a snapshot of our last official Sunday in the Left Hand Creek Ward on August 4. You can tell by this picture Sacrament meeting is still a bit crazy for us. Having a new baby kind of puts a wrench in things like that, but I wouldn't trade her for the world.
Speaking of baby, we buzzed her head! Well, Dan buzzed it while I held her on Monday morning. The front part of her hair had fallen out and was coming back in light brown and fuzzy. The top portion of her hair was long, stringy, and dark brown from when she was born. And she had a big ol' bald spot in the back of her head, I think b/c she was our best sleeper. So, we decided to do her a favor and let her start over. What a shock. We heard that if you shave it, it would come back thicker, I just wasn't willing to risk a nick or razor burn (even though Dan did a great job). We were also told you have to buzz it two or three times to get the same result, but I don't have the guts for that either. Sorry, Natalie.
He he. I should have taken more pictures like these. One night Kaelah just couldn't get to sleep, so she was allowed to "help" us pack. She has mastered drawing on Daddy's iPad and here's a seen from the movie Mulan, her new favorite. I think it's pretty amazing. It was a hit on Facebook too, so I'm pretty sure it's not just me that thinks Kaelah is talented. (;
Closing day! What a feeling to sign all that paperwork -- more than adoption paperwork at the hospital, mind you -- and know you have said you would pay that much money for something. It will only take 30 years. Ah hem. Maybe we should have asked more for renting out the old house.
We had tons of people help us move. Natalie didn't make the list of 21 individuals or families that helped us, but here she is sleeping so we can paint. Friends helped us pack, paint, move (even our washing machine & dryer up the stairs!), and unpack. All while other friends had our oldest 3 over for play dates and other friends made us dinners. My idea is to have all 21 over for dinner at our new house. So far I've gotten 3. It may take until next August. I had no idea we owned so much stuff! And of course, most of it belongs to our children. We did by a new house b/c of them, after all, so it does make sense, but wow. Those Elfa systems from the Container Store really did their job storing and hiding it all. And we are so glad that the food storage only had to come out of a crawl space, not back in one. Looking forward to not banging our head on the way in and out of there anymore.
A pleasant surprise during moving was Shannon & Aaron and Bradley came out to visit, but for a sad reason... a funeral. They were able to come visit for a little bit during our painting to say hi and see the new house. In true family form, Natalie loved Aaron. He was the one babysitter who could always get Michelle to sleep if Dan and I were away. Oh, how we miss them but are so proud of them and their new lives, even if it is out of state.
