Hallowen

We had a great time this Halloween, thanks to Disney and our wonderful friends & neighbors. It all started when Dan asked our 2-year-old what he was going to be for Halloween. We had gotten the box of costumes out & had played in them while Dan was at work. To my great surprise, since we didn't have anything Disney in that box, Danny very confidently replied he was going to be Buzz Lightyear. What?!? He's obsessed with Buzz after having been obsessed with Lightning McQueen. I guess if the word 'light' is in the name, he's a fan! After many failed attempts to find him a Buzz costume in the right size, Dan's cousin, Christy, bailed us out by mailing us the Buzz costume her son had worn the year before. (And she even sent us Vermont maple syrup & cheese too. Yum! Dan has the nicest family.)

After hearing Danny was going to get to be Buzz, the generic pink princess costume in the basement wasn't going to be good enough for Kaelah anymore. She wanted to be Jesse from Toy Story because everywhere we checked was sold out of Sleeping Beauty already. (She's never seen the movie, but Aurora wears pink, so that's good enough for Kaelah.) Dan & I had also been invited to a grown-up Halloween party where we were requested to dress as a Disney couple. I thought Dan would make a great Woody & I had a pink-ish old bridesmaid dress I hadn't worn since college I could dig out of the closet to become Bo Peep. My mom made me a bonnet & shepherd's crook out of some foam she had in her craft supplies. I didn't want to spend any money on mine because Kaelah also decided she had to be Belle for Halloween & Dan & I caved. Luckily Michelle had no opinions about her costume (thank goodness) and we were able to use the unicorn costume from the costume box to pretend she was Buttercup from Toy Story 3. Whew.

Although we spent a lot of money on Kaelah's & Dan's costume & will have to mail back Buzz, I learned something new. Costumes can bring people joy! You should have seen people light up when we went to the church's Hallowen party when they realized we were all Toy Story characters. And when we trick-or-treated around the neighborhood or went to our neighbor, Darrel's, church potluck everyone loved Buzz Lightyear walking around & thought Kaelah was the most beautiful Belle around. Kind of makes me want to start going all out every year... but I'm sure if Danny was this opinionated this year about his costume, we might just have to go with the flow.

Speaking of going all out, you should have seen the party Chelsea & Tim put on! Food, decorations, games -- all superb. We had a wonderful time on our date night with great people. I am so glad Chelsea moved into our ward! I am also grateful my dad chewed me out for wondering why I couldn't get my act together to throw a party like that. Somehow at that moment if was wonderful to hear all 3 of my children were especially "demanding" individuals. (:
I think I figured out the secret to getting things done, though. Wake up at 3am like I did today, help M & K and the dog until 4am, then not be able to go back to sleep, give up at 5am, and get to work on the computer. I've almost caught up on the blog in one morning! Yes!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
