Cupid’s Influence + President’s Day

The weekend before Valentine’s Day found not one but three boys buzzing their heads and my house with two boys dying their hair bright pink!  The trend at the middle school recently is for boys to have longer, shaggy hair but Danny’s hair was driving him crazy. When he realized it was interfering with his ability to see while playing basketball he decided to go drastic and get a buzz… and then bleach it, and then dye bright pink hearts on it for Valentine’s Day. After school on Friday I took him and his new crush plus another friend to Sally’s Beauty Supply. Although they had consulted with the art teacher first it was pretty obvious none of us knew what we were doing and had to ask for help. Soon this is what my bathroom looked like: It was quite the adventure with lots of being nervous combined with plenty of laughter. The bleach job turned out orangish so Danny decided to dye all his hair pink. Then Z decided to dye his recently buzzed hair pink as well. Then two of Natali...

Finally February

It was a blast to watch Danny play in the annual staff vs. student basketball game.  I don’t have the guts to go out there and play!  The staff won, which seems to be the tradition but since C dislocated his arm on Sunday they let him referee the game, which was different for sure.  I’m so grateful I work at the middle school so that I could be there.  I am going to miss having my boy here when he’s off to high school next year. It was finally my turn to watch Kate’s new club team play volleyball!  Even though I had never been to this facility before it felt familiar because it is so close to the zoo and nature museum. These girls had a packed schedule with working the table (turns out Kate is the team table captain, which I didn’t know until I heard the coach say it), played two games, worked the table again and then played two more games. (We left the house at about 6:15pm and got home around 4pm.) The first game was really fun with our team winning pret...

Happy Birthday to you!

Kate’s half birthday found me shopping at Costco for the first time in over two months.  I bet you can guess where I bought her cake to celebrate at.  (Although she had four friends over to help her celebrate, this is the one photo she would let me take.  Lol.) We had so much on our shopping list that I ended up filling up a cart, paying, putting stuff in the back of the car and then going in all over again.  I spent about two hours there and headed straight to pick up Michelle at her District Honors Orchestra practice.  Due to the snow day they were only together twice before their concert that night but they were at a high school together from 8:30am - 2pm so I think they got lots of practice in.  Michelle had a blast participating and the concert went so well.  Very impressive.  It was fun to see friends we haven’t seen for a while there too!  This photo is part of Michelle’s fan club.  A & L H (not pictured) brought her a rose! ...

MLK Weekend

Kate and Hubby got to go to the first out of state volleyball tournament of the year, this time to Kansas City.  Their head coach said he was very proud of them all for never giving up while playing on a brand new team in their first tourney of the season.  It sounds like these girls played against some very talented teams but had a great time.  Kate came home exhausted but happy and I think they are looking forward to the first local tournament next weekend. Meanwhile at home the four of us journeyed to Sheel's & Michelle's favorite restaurant.  Turns out me putting away the Christmas decorations saved us almost $700!  We had purchased me a really nice coat for Christmas but it turned out the zipper didn't work right.  I figured I would just deal with it since I didn't know where the receipt was and was so happy when I found it while spending hours putting away the Christmas decorations.  Imagine my surprise when I carefully looked at that piece o...
