Starting Summer

M & N began summer by getting together with friends and creating summer buckets lists.  They are all beautiful and they are both so excited to have plans with friends for when there is no school.  N's hang out also included swimming & a trip to Ziggi’s & pictures sent to me.

Danny and his friends have gone camping couple times together and Danny is getting sick of eating hot dogs on the weekend but he is having so much fun.  They also woke up for a morning sunrise and then he came home and went back to sleep.  Summer is good for the soul.

With all the camping in May it should be a surprise that our truck now has over 100,000 miles on it.   When it had around 2 miles left we decided to drive to Dairy Queen and hit the milestone as we entered the parking lot and took a video and photo.  Ice cream is such an excellent invention for celebration.

M also got to celebrate V's birthday with many of her favorite people and her mom shared this cute photo.

I got to hang out with Michelle's friends too.  About ten of them planned a camping trip together but a few of the parents wanted the girls to have a chaperone and I won.  Only half of the girls could come due to summer jobs, illness, and even a surprise family trip to Paris but these were amazing girls to be around.  We are missing V from the picture because she went home before the hike but oh, I was so glad I have been working hard at PT so that I could go on an easy but three mile hike with them.  I have only walked the dog up to 1.5 miles since my broken ankle and I did wear my ankle brace but so far good with a bit of pain in the heal area.

While I was out of cell phone range Kate sent us the following photo.  We had talked about her getting a tattoo of the Mandarin characters for our dog Meigo's name and she had me send them to her but spoiler alert, that's not what ended up happening.  I also recommended getting a tattoo that would be easily covered for job interviews but I guess this is easily covered with long sleeves. Technically, she didn’t need our permission since she’s 18 so it’s nice she included us at all.

And would it really be a post this time of year without a softball tournament involved?  This one took us to windy Wyoming. Hubby got to take N on day one for pool play while I was camping.  I missed a really exciting moment when Natalie stole home to tie up their last game of the day 2-2.  She got tagged really hard in the chest by the pitcher — to the point it knocked the wind out of her — but she was called safe and there was no mark the next day. They went on to win that game 4-2.

Day 2 I got to journey to windy Wyoming and we got our gas money’s worth out of it. The girls easily won the first game 8-1. The second game they had an epic comeback, going from 1-4 to 10-4.  Thank goodness there was not a five run rule anymore. The other coach was not happy when the game was over and I can understand why. It’s much more fun to see a team persevere and come from behind than to have a decent lead and then never score again.  The third game we could quickly see we were up against a team that knew how to swing a bat and did not make fielding errors. We ended the day with the opposite score as the beginning, 1-8. Honestly, I don’t think the girls minded and were happy to get out of the wind after playing 6 games in it. Hubby had a delicious dinner ready for us when we got home so that was a great way to end a softball weekend.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
