What a week!

This is the kind of week (Jan 11-17) that makes me feel lucky to get to be a wife and mom and work part time at my youngest’s school.  First up, I got to drive Michelle and a couple friends to their Button Rock hike. Michelle is pleased her hiking club is growing in numbers.  I enjoyed hearing about how the hike went after Hubby brought her home, along with updates from her many other endeavors.

The same day as Michelle’s most recent hike Danny and Jane went to the Nuggets game with tickets J had gotten D for Christmas. They had so much fun and I heard it was a good game to be at! Meanwhile, some girls pulled up in front of our house, yelling and singing and honking their horn and then drove off.  Hubby and Michelle and I were in the hot tub and when we saw them coming back around, Hubby jumped out of the hot tub, went around the side of the house and scared them by putting his arms up and roaring.  They SCREAMED and drove off and we laughed and laughed... especially rewatching it all from our security camera footage.

On Tuesday I had a list a mile long of things to do on my day off but was rewarded by getting to watch Natalie’s last two intramural basketball games, with Hubby joining us for the last one. We might be biased but we are impressed with how much Natalie has learned in so little time. Even though she sees basketball as just something fun to do in the off season, Hubby and I think she could play in high school if she wanted to.

High school basketball was intense this week!  Our boys went into the week undefeated but met with two of the best teams in the league on Tuesday and Friday.  We were so excited to finally have home games and the whole family including my parents watched Danny play this week.  Our boys played hard and the student section cheering was top notch, especially against HF.  Hubby looked up the stats and even though our team beat HF 3 out of the 4 quarters of play and made it to within 5 points with 2 minutes left in the game, they just couldn’t pull ahead.  HF is the kind of opponent where Danny’s strengths really shine and we were so proud of him.  I need to get better at taking photos of his fan clubs too but here is one I got of my dad and Hubby.  My dad is hoping to come to a lot more games now that he has officially retired from Walmart.  His upcoming 80th birthday has made him realize he is lucky to have felt good enough to work so long but it's time to slow down.  I am so lucky to have him around!

Here is a great shot of Danny taken by LTC photographer, Matthew Jonas.  It puts all of my pictures to shame.

And a huge shout out to the student section for giving such amazing support to the team for both games, with photo curtesy of T.M.  And props to the H family for hosting a team lunch.  No wonder Danny doesn't want a team dinner at our house.  Our new back yard has nothing on theirs!

Saturday morning brought Natalie another softball practice, but this time they met at the library afterwards to make goals/vision boards for the new year.  I love how much these coaches care about the girls as a whole, not just as softball players.

Other Saturday activities included Danny and Jane making banana bread at her house and Hubby and I having a little fun with Will's AP Psych "baby" when we noticed it was left unattended.

We began the week talking about Michelle and we will end with one of her activities as well.   The LYSO got to play Sibelius's Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43 with the LSO at their wonderful family program called "A Child's Book of Animals."  I wish Michelle could have seen the entire program since they didn't play until the end but Hubby, my dad, and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole concert -- even the rapping swan that made us laugh out loud.  (Errol Shaw did a wonderful job adding voice to the entire presentation.)  I especially enjoyed hearing Camille Saint-Saens' Aquarium since everyone who watches movies knows the piece but we may not know where it came from.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
