The weather continued to be perfect to watch Natalie play softball in, this time a double header at a place that had shade sails installed over the bleachers. It was amazing! But then the next weekend she was due for a double header in windy Wyoming and the girls were so cold they were huddled up under blankets in the dugout. Hubby even went and bought himself a camping blanket at Menards. That’s really saying something because he likes the cold!
Although the weather was better at home, the drizzle put a damper on the Homecoming dance for a lot of high schoolers. Danny and Michelle just had us take pictures on our porch right before they left with friends but Kate had joined her friends early enough in the day that she got some good ones to send me.
Luckily the powder puff game, drone show, football game, and parade had happened while the weather was still perfect! That drone show after the powder puff game was very fun to watch. I didn’t get our favorite parts on camera but let’s just say the next time we hear about another school district drone show, we will be excited to see it.
And I was thrilled that I could support my two 6th grade science buddies in watching the parade. Mrs J was PREPARED, handing out ziplock bags and bringing a picker upper to pass candy to her students when it fell on the street. The best part for me was the fact Natalie is in that class so I got to see my daughter have a lot of fun. I was surprised Danny decided not to be on the basketball float and obviously had my camera ready for him. My high schoolers just drove around the chaos and went home when school got out. lol
The next weekend I got to volunteer to help with the high school orchestra “boot camp and party” and that was so fun. I am grateful I got to see all the organization and hard work others put into this event and watch students having a great time while also developing their skills.
The best part of the weekend was having family in town! They met us at Natalie’s softball game and we had a blast having pizza, playing Hues and Cues and Do You Know Me?, watching Gremlins in our basement, and visiting Pearl Street together. The time went by way too fast and I feel lucky to have married into such a great family.
Before I end this post, I have something sad to share. The last couple of weeks have been very rough for those of us working in the ASD program. One of our students passed away and upon hearing the news I immediately choked up and felt so sorry for our school principal who had to make all those phone calls to his SPED staff on a Sunday afternoon. I felt incredibly sad for his family, Ms. T, and everyone who would miss him. I already cherish my last time working with him. It was a few days before we got the news and I was helping him do his math worksheet using rubber ducks as counting tools. At one point he smelled the lotion on my arms, apparently wanted to investigate further, picked up my arm and smelled it, then smiled. Of course at the time I told him to keep working but if I had known that would be our last time working together, I don't think I could have made him work. Like Ms. T said, our classroom will never be the same.
