Let’s Keep This Perfect Weather Around!

School is in full swing with high schoolers doing lots of different things like Kate and Danny going to their school’s sporting events (photo stolen from friend Adrienne) and Michelle volunteering with the leadership academy (photo stolen from the LA president).

Most of the family hasn’t been feeling the greatest physically this week but Labor Day weekend had almost nothing on the calendar (N got to go to J’s birthday party and M volunteered at Bingo again) so Hubby took Michelle hiking in the gorgeous weather before the Chautauqua shuttle closed down for the fall. I was happy for them!

While Hubby and Michelle were off hiking, Natalie and I did things like bust out the sidewalk chalk because the weather was just too nice to not be outside. I have noticed that being outside is essential to me feeling emotionally well as I recover from my surgery so when Natalie decided she was too tired to hike I was glad we could do something outdoors together even if we weren’t up to hiking. She has been an absolute joy and a great helper in my recovery, even asking to check on my incisions when I put on new Scar Away strips.  The healing is coming along slowly but surely. I’ve had some good days when I’ve overdone it (like when I hosted Activity Days at our house exactly 4 weeks post op) but recovery the next day wasn’t as hard as the last time I did too much so I took it as a sign of progress.

It has been a joy to be able to drop Natalie & A at practices and watch them play in their first scrimmages in perfect weather. We love the jerseys their coach MADE. Natalie and A even wore them to twin day at school.

Then on Saturday they had their seeding games — four in one day! Hubby took her to warm ups, watched the first game at 9am, and stayed with her and watched her second game at noon. Michelle had helped with the school district parade (photo stolen from my boss) and I picked her up, took her to the library to check out Born A Crime for her language arts class, grabbed lunch at Jimmy John’s, and she and I got to the field in time to watch Natalie’s second game.

Then she and Hubby went home after the second game (spoiler: the only game they won was the only game Michelle watched so I teased Michelle needs to come to all the games), then my dad and I stayed to watch the 3rd and 4th games. My dad took the day off work and watched all four of Natalie’s games!

P.S. At the second game N & A played against Cora, a teammate of theirs last year, and it was great to see them give each other hugs on the field after the game. We definitely chose the right team last year and I have hope we chose the right team for this year as well.

Maisie is not doing well with me being able to leave the house!  This is a photo I took after being gone approximately 15 minutes dropping Danny and Michelle off at school when Kate was running late one morning. She went into the pantry, grabbed a new can of snack Pringles out of the container, opened it up, and was almost done eating it when I caught her. See that tail wagging?  I did not think this was a good sign for me returning to work the next day.  She did leave poop by the front door for me but other than that my first day back I felt missed and spoiled. They gave me all the easy jobs and even though I definitely needed to lay down with my heating pad when I got home, I was glad to be back at the middle school!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
