Perfect Weather

The week after school got out was absolutely gorgeous. That first Saturday Hubby rented a trailer and he, Michelle and I attacked that huge pile of branches to take to the city drop off and mowed the lawn. One of these days I’ll get better at taking before and after photos but I will tell you that true love is spending your Saturday helping your in-laws with their gigantic back yard.

Hubby also got our bicycles ready for summer and Natalie has been our leader in getting us out there on wheels.

It seems a shame to be indoors when it is so beautiful out but on Memorial Day we got out all the t-shirts we have been saving for quilts and got started on 3/5 of them!  That was a whole lot of using scissors!!!

We also were happy to host Kate’s friends on the night before Memorial Day with a taco bar, games, sleepover, and fried eggs on English muffins for breakfast. They were all so fun and kind and it was great to have their laughter and souls in our home for a while.

I felt like I barely saw Danny but he was sure to keep in touch through texts and calls and even pictures like this.  I also got to take him to get his braces off first thing Tuesday morning!  He was so excited I only had to wake him up once!  The next day he got to be braces free for his high school basketball game that Hubby took him to and two days after that I got to take him to his first day of Driver's Ed!!!

On Wednesday Michelle had the idea for her and Natalie to ride their bikes to the public library and I insisted that I got to come along.  I paid them back by taking them out to eat lunch after our one hour bike ride and visit to the library and before the one hour ride home.  The ride home was amazing and made us so grateful to live where we do and that Hubby and the bike shop got our bikes working well enough to ride.

On Saturday and Sunday the beautiful weather continued for Natalie's softball tournament.  It was Hubby's turn on day one and he got to watch three games but on day two, sadly, our girls lost for the second time and were done for the day around 10:30am.  I decided we should see a little of Cheyenne before heading home so we drove less than 10 minutes to see Big Boy 4004 and the great park it is in & found one of the Big Boots complete with a phone number to call for the accompanying video.  So off we set to find a few more boots and the areas around them, including the regional airport, Children's Village, and the Wild West museum.  It certainly made us feel like we had more of a visit to Wyoming and it was fun to do something we've never done before.  Natalie is an excellent adventure buddy!  She also donated a pink rubber ducky of hers that had been in the VW since Valentine's Day to a purple Jeep that had parked right next to us on one of our stops.

I also had a little adventure at N's first softball practice after the tournament.  With the gorgeous weather I opted to explore the area around the softball fields for the first time ever.  Little did I know I would be seeing a historic home that was saved from literally being torn down to put in a parking lot and a bridge that was so loved it was moved to the park when the road it was going over was expanded.  Such a neat area and my watch was impressed I got more than my normal dog walk in.  lol.  I've included a photo here of one of the many times we had to stop on a walk to stalk a rabbit.  Maisie is loving having me home in the summer, especially since I have been trying to walk her a full mile every morning.  She is losing weight as I do so and after Kate was put in charge of watching how much food the dog is being given.  (It is super important for Maisie not to be overweight due to her hip dysplasia.)

How cute is this picture of Kate and her bestie when they went paddle boarding together with another friend?!?  I'm so glad she was willing to share it with me.  Kate is having a lot of fun hanging out with friends this summer and seems so happy that it is summer time.

On Wednesday Natalie finished day 3/3 of full day climbing camp and had a really good time!  That night it was my turn to take Danny to basketball so I got to see his last two games of his summer league with the high school.  I noticed that he seemed to have a lot more fun playing on the Titans than for his school and when I asked him about it on the way home he said it was because the competitive team was easier than the high school one.  Makes sense since with Titans there are all kids who just finished 9th grade vs. at these high school games there are students going into their senior year out there on the court.  It was a busy day for most of my kids because that morning Michelle had two permanent teeth pulled after the orthodontist realized the months of rubber bands and weeks of horrible, breaking springs just weren't helping.  She seems to be recovering well and was all ready to goi to tennis practice a couple mornings later.

I was delighted to be sent this photo from Take Your Kid To Work Day at Hubby's work the next day.  I missed out due to a chiropractor appointment -- got to get all fixed up after all the out of town driving I've been doing lately -- and it sounds like the girls had a great time being with their dad.  They even came home with posters we hung up in the den and in Natalie's room.  Thank yo for making that happen, Hubby!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
