Happy Easter!

We got home late Friday night but my softball and baseball players were able to hit the fields on Saturday.  Natalie had her first tournament of the spring season called “Bunny Hop.”  One of her teammates had a birthday as well and got everyone rabbit ears and cupcakes.  It was good for the girls to be back to playing real games after the winter and it let the coach see exactly what they need to work on.  The next weekend Hubby was asked to get Natalie a 1st base glove because there are going to try her out there.  She had mom, dad, brother & brother’s first base playing best friend all at the store helping her pick out a new glove.

Danny was the only one that got sunburned in the Bahamas but I got sunburned watching his double header the day after we got home and Natalie got sunburned playing softball.  Danny had some good hits and I’m so glad I got a picture of the one his coach called his best swing of the day.  He also played first base for a tiny bit when it was time for J to warm up to pitch but I really truly wish I had gotten a video of his sweet catch at left field.

I wanted to include one of the pieces of art work Natalie brought home. I love having elementary school art to hang on the refrigerator. Amazing to think I will only get to enjoy this for two more months!  This one was extra special to me because it came home around the first anniversary of Y’s passing.  It reminded me of the metal sunflower I’ve seen as a remembrance of him. Natalie and I cried together as I wrote a card for the family that we picked out in Orlando.  We didn’t attend the balloon launch or open house due to softball practices but we were definitely thinking of him and his family.

Easter Sunday my teenagers slept in but the rest of us went to our ward. I really liked the I. family’s children singing Gethsemane and Sister Z B’s talk. I got called back to Activity Days and it was so fun to have some of the girls come up to me and tell me they were so happy I was coming back!

After Church Danny took this picture for us before we had our Easter egg hunt and made orange marmalade glazed ham, smashed (yes, smashed, not mashed) potatoes, bacon Parmesan green beans, and strawberry dirt cups, all taken from the Six Sisters’ Celebrate Every Season cookbook.  Below is my not great photo of Natalie and her friends dying Easter eggs.  Nice to know I’m not the only one that closes my eyes for photos sometimes.

The next day I tried to prank the family for April Fool’s but only Hubby fell for it.  The real joke was on me when the dog got into Michelle and Natalie’s Easter baskets, dug through the kitchen trash can, & pooped on the play room floor.  Sometimes Maisie impresses me with how far she has come and some days she does not.  Either way, we love our sweet, soft dog.

Speaking of dogs, we were so grateful that Natalie got over being sick in time to be back at school for when Gobi and his human came to visit.  Sounds like it was a really neat visit and we are looking forward to reading Natalie’s copy of the book at bedtime together once we’ve finished our latest Rick Riordan book.  Natalie was the last of us to fall ill and luckily the day I had to work when she was sick my mom was able to come and also thought to give Natalie her birthday presents early.  It helped!

One evening Michelle and I had met with a viola teacher who lived close to a thrift store and we decided to go in on the way home.  There happened to be a bunch of National Geographic magazines there and I showed her how when there is red on the binding there might be a neat map inside.  I had some at home but we found a couple more and ended up changing Michelle’s room from a Harry Potter theme to a room filled with maps from the 1970s through 2010s.  I think it is a neat change and was only $10 — and half of that was buying wooden push pins to hang the maps up with.  We paired the maps with vintage bedding that belonged to my grandmother so really, only $10 to completely change a room after four years of HP.

I loved see this hair braiding chain going on in our kitchen. I had French braided Natalie’s hair, then she braided Michelle’s hair as Michelle did a fish tail braid on A’s hair.

I also loved watching Danny play basketball for his club team again!  Well, the first game was a little hard to watch.  This was their first game playing as a new team and they were up against some very aggressive opponents.  The next game was much more fun to watched and Danny had some good revenge play going on.  I am so glad I got to take him.  It was Hubby’s turn the next day and it sounds like I got the better of the two days to attend.  Here’s to hoping there is learning, growth, and many more good games ahead!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
