All Done April

Kate hardly ever posts on Instagram so imagine how happy I was to see this beautiful photo of her pop up on my social media!  I was also happy to sneak this picture of our family playing Hues and Cues with her friend, W.  I was grateful Natalie’s softball game was canceled due to weather so that we could be together on a school night to do nothing.

Since you can’t tell who he is, I felt like it was ok to take & post this photo of one of our students after completing an activity one of the other paras, R, planned and carried out that was a huge hit.  They used “foam clay” to decorate Korean masks and it was seriously the best.  I have truly enjoyed getting to know R better this school year and am grateful for her and what she does!

Backtrack to Wednesday: After work and school Hubby, Natalie, and I cheered on Danny and his team at his baseball game.  The weather had been great all day and then about 15 minutes after the game began, it started to get cloudy, breezy, and chilly. By the time the game ended we were so very cold and grateful Danny’s team mercy ruled the other team so we could go home!  I decided it was because there was a track meet at the high school as well and we all know track meets aren’t allows to have perfect conditions very often.

Hooray, CMAS is over!  I am grateful that I have gotten to spend more time with my opted out kids and that my coworker set up a way for us to celebrate being all done!  Above is a photo of the game Bananagrams Michelle and I played one morning together before she went to school and below, don’t worry, more than one of those cocktails is virgin. I feel so lucky to get to work 3 days a week so that I can be at the middle school with this wonderful women but can still do things as a mom I want to do.

Here is a picture of a collective 5th grade art project at the district art show. Can you find Natalie’s daisy?

Soon that cold weather we started to feel at the baseball game led to softball, baseball, and tennis cancellations due to wet and snowy fields and courts. It was kind of nice to have a slower schedule for a few days. Michelle invited her friend B over for board games and quesadillas, Hubby, Michelle, and I took a trip to Target with a looong shopping list, our house is clean, etc.

Basketball was still on!  Danny had yet another tournament weekend. This one was a heartbreaker with some tough competition.

While Hubby and Danny were at basketball, Kate was babysitting, Natalie got to go to a friend’s birthday party, and Michelle, Maisie and I binge watched Small Spaces Big Dreams while we ate dinner after our making of Disney Grahams from the Six Sisters Copycat cookbook. The next day I got to sub for the cute little Sunbeam class at Church with SY ( she had prepared. Such a great time!) before Michelle and I hosted an ensemble group “masterclass,” followed by her making brownies while Hubby and I put out new mulch and gave our maple tree more iron. Yes, the day ended up being warm and sunny after that drizzle and snow for days.

Before the next round of precipitation, this one rain, canceled games over the weekend, Natalie and Danny were able to get out and play on the same day. I was so sad I couldn’t be in two places at once!  Luckily one of the JV moms took some great pictures of Danny, of which I will place some here after a couple I took of Natalie.

Before the rain came Michelle was able to squeeze in a tennis class and I got to take her in the new loaner car, this time a 2024 Accord.  Yes, we have another brand new car to borrow while Hubby’s Civic is getting fixed even though we put over 1,000 miles on the last one.  One of my friends told me it seems like I’m driving a different car every time she sees me.

Between the rain and Danny not feeling well, we decided that Saturday was the best time to clean our upstairs carpet and Hubby did a great job — the man who had been cleaning our carpet for years needed to retire early because he needed to take care of his ill wife.  So sad!  Then by Sunday afternoon the sun was back and we could finish garden planting, walk the dog for over a mile and play tennis after I got to sub for Natalie’s primary class. And I think everyone was grateful for the perfect weather to hold for the district’s 5th grade field day the next morning!  I tried and failed to find a sub at work so that I could watch but luckily I’s mom and A’s mom sent me photos and a video. I am so grateful for our community and Natalie had a marvelous time!

The home field was too wet to play on even with Danny’s former head coach pumping over 1,000 gallons of water off the field the day before so the location was changed to one of the city fields.  Hubby and I met there after work (thank goodness my coworkers got me out the door early or else I would have been late) and I got to watch the first couple innings before heading home to get Michelle and her friend R to their Leadership Academy induction ceremony at the high school.

I am so excited for Michelle to try out this program next school year. I got to meet Carrie years ago as a member of the Left Hand Creek Ward and she is one of the most amazing and funniest women I have ever met. I have only heard good things about the Leadership Academy and think Michelle will really enjoy it.  To celebrate, I took Michelle out to eat afterwards at somewhere she had never been before and we had virgin cocktails to go along with our Hawaiian inspired food.

After all the excitement of a double header for Danny and the ceremony for Michelle, Tuesday felt like a dream with all six of us at home hanging out in the living room and kitchen.  I had planned to go to Target but when I saw there was a chance for the entire family to be together, I just had to stay home.  Funny how when they were little I was happy to get out of the house and now I am happy to stay put instead.  I cherish the time we can all be together.  Oh, that reminds me, I have some travel planning to do!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
