I’m continuing to enjoy supporting Danny supporting his high school basketball team. He and I stayed for the C team game as well, which lots of his former teammates are on. It’s fun for me to be in the stands with parents I enjoy cheering their kids on.
I enjoyed seeing Kate and A complete the super hard puzzle Kate was given. I am impressed at their determination.
I had the privilege to drive Michelle to Colorado Springs in preparation for her 8th grade orchestra’s CMEA performance. We stopped at Garden of the Gods on our way to the Broadmoor and the snow made this beautiful location even more amazing. It was fun to see families all dressed up in snow clothes and playing together. I think it is so neat that this land was donated for the public to enjoy.
This was our first time at the Broadmoor and it was amazing. The level of service was incredible, especially for the price in the off season. Luckily Michelle brought cash to tip the bell hop because I never carry cash.
That night we had a fancy dinner before meeting up with R’s family. The girls went off to be with other orchestra friends and I was so surprised when I returned to our room to find turn down service complete with Broadmoor disposable water bottles, chocolates a post card, and book mark to take home.
The orchestra performed the next morning in such a lovely setting and sounded so very beautiful. Before hand some of us parents got to help prepare the room, which was fun, and then chat while we waited to be let in, which was also fun. The students were nervous and excited yet they behaved and performed in such a professional way. I’m not a musician in any sense of the word but I thought they were perfect. And of course it is always a crowd pleaser when it is announced that one of Ms F’s former students, Jordan M. Holloway, composed one of the pieces specifically for this 8th grade orchestra. I was overwhelmed with how wonderful it all was and what it took for Michelle to be there. Her hard work, Ms F, supportive parents, and great grandparents that were generous enough to pay for her to attend a Waldorf school that started her on the viola in third grade. Amazing how so much can go into creating a perfect moment in time. I'm just glad I got to be there to see and hear it — and for L’s mom, who traded places with me when she realized she could see Michelle better than I could.
After their performance and group photos, lunch was had at a place called The Main Event where the students could go bowling and play laser tag or arcade games. The teacher in charge of the bus said Michelle could join her friends on the ride home and she was happy to spend more time with them. I was fine driving home listening to an audiobook (this one by Jennette McCurdy) and stop at my favorite Goodwill location on the way home. She even beat me home since the bus didn't stop & Hubby had to go pick her up from the school. lol. I'm glad she was able to have such a wonderful time!
And look how cute the photos they quickly sent in the mail are!
I am so very grateful for Hubby and his willingness to take a day off work and be with Kate while she had her wrist worked on. It has been bothering her for years (on and off) and the orthopedic agreed it was time to operate on her wrist. I woke the two of them up at 6:00 in the morning so that they could be at the surgery center while the morning went on for the rest of us as usual. Hubby was great at text updates and all went well. It was still heartbreaking to see her asleep in bed with her arm propped up when I came home during my lunch break. I was instantly so upset I thought I was going to vomit. I know that Kate is so grown up but seeing her vulnerable like that wrecked me. I hope that this surgery is as successful as the surgeon said it will be that and that she won't have to worry about wrist pain anymore. Maybe if I had been there in person to see how the medicine made her giggly I wouldn't have had such a severe reaction. lol. I love Kate's laugh. And she is doing great. Only took one prescribed pain pill and has been all OTC after that. The doctor excused her from school until Monday but she made it to school both Thursday and Friday afternoons thanks to A giving her rides. The following photo is a great example of how Kate has been with her surgery & making people laugh about it. Also, when people ask about her wrist she tells them she was attacked by a mountain lion.
Thank goodness softball practice is indoors! We had slush and snow arrive for the weekend. While A’s mom drove to practice, I drove Hubby’s car to Michelle’s appointment and almost got stuck in the parking lot. Well, I thought I was stuck and called Hubby but really the car's safety features had kicked in and turned off the engine but the heat and lights were still on but I didn't realize that at first. lol. Funny how south of here always gets more snow even though it’s only 20 minutes away on a clear day.
We finished the weekend with tall high schoolers invading our house -- in the nicest way possible -- for a JV team dinner. I had signed up months ago and the day finally came. I figured the best way to get everyone to rsvp yes was to promise Cane’s chicken as the entree. The boys all brought things to help with dinner and our kitchen island was FULL! But they did a good job eating most of it and thanked us for letting them come. I can't wait to cheer them on at their home game this week. And did anyone else notice how color coordinated their clothes were or is that just me?
