February Festivities

Maisie was saved from her last appointment at the groomer by negative temperatures but even though it was snowing over the weekend, it was definitely time to go.  Here’s her before photo.

While Hubby was dropping the dog off at the groomer and picking our iMac from the repair shop, these softball players and I were singing along to Taylor Swift because we accidentally got to practice 25 minutes early. Hey, when the phone said it would take half and hour last time we were 7 minutes late and this time it was snowing to boot so we allowed extra time. Well, it took half an hour because the roads were fine and the traffic was light. Huh.

These girls are doing great!  The head coach told me she felt like she was so lucky with this group of players. They seem to enjoy each other but are also focused and always ready to go. She apologized that the new indoor practice facility is another 15 minutes farther away but promised it would be worth the extra drive because then the girls can have an indoor field to practice on. That sounds great!

Us girls made it home before Maisie did. I got to bring her home and she told me all about how Daddy dropped her off while I was gone. And the groomer reported Maisie did just fine even though we switched her to a lesser anxiety medication. Yay, Maisie!

Happy Lunar New Year!  This is who I got to eat Chinese food with to celebrate while Kate babysat and Danny hung out with friends.  Everyone left very full!  The next day we celebrated Mardi Gras by baking a King Cake and getting out our beads from Universal Studios last year.  That entertained us while we waited for the Super Bowl action to start.  Natalie was totally ready to watch Taylor’s boyfriend play football.  I must admit it ended up being a really good game, especially during over time, and my Kansas roots were glad for a KC win, but I always feel so sorry for whoever loses.  This is probably one of many reasons why I am bad at sports.  lol.

I am so proud of Michelle for performing in her school’s spring concert this year.  She had been home sick Friday - Monday but made it to school and the concert on Tuesday and then stayed home to recover on Wednesday.  Apparently a lot of orchestra members were ill and Ms. F was so grateful that Michelle was able to be there.  She actually told me that after she saw me stealing Michelle and L’s violas out of their lockers on my way home from work on Wednesday because they both decided that even though they didn’t feel well enough to go to school they did feel well enough to go to their ensemble together that night.  And yes, Michelle was able to make it to school on Thursday but was also very grateful for the long weekend.

The above great photo was actually sent to me from one of Michelle’s friends via her school and my work email and was very sweet.  She had heard from another friend’s mom that I wasn’t in a good place to take pictures and I truly appreciate being reminded how wonderful people can be.

This was take three of us trying to get a selfie after the show.  I’m so glad at least some of us were able to be there!  (My dad was at work after needing some time off for medical reasons, Danny was at basketball practice, and Kate and Natalie decided to watch Zombies in the basement together when they realized they were the only ones home.)

Wednesday was the last home basketball games and there was quite the turn out.  Can you spot Kate?  She came home saying it hurt to talk she yelled so much.  I’m so glad she finds joy in cheering her school on!  She also made sure to get Danny to his last home game on time while I had yet more parent teacher conferences.  I have spent hours talking to teachers and am so impressed with the staff we have at our local schools.  I can’t believe the season is only two months long but I think Danny was ready for it to end.  It’s not a whole lot of fun for a competitive kid to not be able to play.  So far this semester his grades are much better and he is hoping to make the baseball team this spring but basketball is still his favorite.

On Saturday Natalie and I got to see her softball team’s new indoor practice facility.  It’s so nice!  Every thing about the place is better and there is even an area where they could work on in field skills.  Afterwards when we couldn’t find lotion in the car for Natalie’s hands that were so dry they cracked open, we drove to a nearby Bath & Body Works to get her a big bottle of lotion just for her.  Then we ate at Jimmy John’s since In & Out’s line was so long and could not resist the Menchie’s that was two doors down.  And then we realized that the car needed gas so we stopped at a station known to have cheaper gas than by our house and by the time we got home, we had been gone from 10am - past 3pm.  I guess these Saturday practices might become an adventure when A isn’t with us.  While Natalie and I were having our softball related adventures, Hubby was at home trying to fix my iMac.  Sadly, it just wasn’t in the cards for my much enjoyed computer to come back to life.  For the amount of money it would take to fix the five year old machine, we would be half way to the cost of a brand new one.  I was surprised by how sad the news made me but am so grateful for all the things I was able to accomplish in the five years I got to enjoy it.  Right now I have my keyboard connected to my iPad and will see how long I last trying to pretend I have a laptop now.  I know for sure I can’t make my Shutterfly scrapbooks on a mobile device since I already started them on a desktop but we did figure out that I can upload photos from my phone to the app and then use Hubby’s computer to clumsily work on them.  First world problems!

After a very busy week Hubby and I were able to enjoy pedicures to celebrate Valentine’s Day… and took a selfie in the auto car wash before he headed back to work.  I truly am one lucky lady to have this catch as my Valentine!!!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
