Happy Birthday, Boys!

Hubby drove us safely home from Lake McConaughy first thing in the morning and we had plenty of time to unpack and clean up (even washing Danny’s uniforms) before heading off to Natalie’s double header and Danny’s scrimmage. Natalie’s first game she played short stop but surprisingly nothing really came her way. She got a lot more action the next game playing first base and right field!  It was fun to see our girls win against a team that had beat us by a lot the last time we played them. The second team they played against had an amazing pitcher. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pitcher throw so many strikes at this age level.  And just like that the last game of the season was over.  Natalie's grey Raptors jersey can join her collection of other colorful jerseys she keeps in a tidy pile in her closet.

After the last game I realized I was never emailed Natalie’s team and individual photos so luckily the coach could give me the right contact info and I was able to get then after the season ended.  The sunshine was strong that picture day and we made it there barely in time!

The dance parents also got sent some dress rehearsal photos and they were pretty fun to get in the inbox as well!

I got a text message the morning we came home from Michelle simply stating, “I love orchestra camp.”  It sounds like the camp was really well organized with plenty for the the kids to do outside of honing their instrumental skills as well.  From games to karaoke to meals everything appears to have been a blast.  Michelle is ready to go again next summer!  So grateful she had this opportunity!  But can you imagine how happy I was to see her when it was time for her concert?  For one thing, I’m still not used to her glasses and they are so darn perfect.  For another thing, I feel like this is the longest I have ever been away from her and I missed her so very much.  At the concert (which Hubby, my mom and I attended while Kate babysat Natalie for us), the middle school orchestra performed four pieces of music: Pinnacle, For the Star of County Down, Inverno, + Red Pepper.  They got to stand up for the last piece which was fun for me not only because I had never seen Michelle perform in that way and also it meant I could see her right leg and arm whereas before I couldn’t see a single bit of her from where we were sitting.  Lol.

Michelle was super tired after all that fun she had at camp and opted for relaxation upstairs away from Danny and Colin’s birthday party.  Yes, these two friends with June birthdays opted to have a join birthday party this year.  Natalie and I bought everything we needed for the party except the pizza (C’s family sent plenty of pizza over!) and even added C’s name and what age he was turning to the birthday cake.  So instead of reading Happy 14th Birthday Danny it now read Happy 14th & 15th Birthday Danny & Colin + Natalie added a smiley face.  She may get super sassy around him and those two may pretend they are enemies, but either her love for her brother is stronger than her beef with his best friend or she secretly doesn’t hate him after all.  Lol.  It was fun to see the boy’s names in Lego as created by Zach & Eric (I think) and to watch the friends come streaming in.  They had a super large guest list that made me a little nervous but Danny told me we could spy on the party with our basement camera every time we felt the need.  And when they left the house Kate and two of her friends followed the group “to keep an eye on them for you.”  They were back, of course, and all seemed to be well.  Eventually they all left by my predetermined cut off time of midnight since Hubby and I had somewhere to be the next morning.  Danny seemed to have a great time and finally felt like he actually had his birthday now that he got to celebrate the way he wanted.  Oh, how I love this son of ours and feel so lucky to get to be his mom!!!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
