Play ball!

Play volleyball:

The club volleyball team headed to the east coast together to play in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  I really really wanted to go with Kate & Hubby and the team but looking at the calendar made me feel like there was just too much going on at home to get away.  That first night some of the girls got to try out sand volleyball while they waited for their food to be ready at a restaurant.  Seemed like a great start to the trip to me!  They played their matches well and had plenty of time to hang out together as a team.  Sounds like great memories were made with both lots of hard work and plenty of laughs.  I am so grateful for the wonderful players, coaches, and parents that were involved with this team.  I am sad to see the season end but I have hope for next year!

Play baseball:

Danny had a pretty busy week!  On Monday they beat the Falcons 11-7 after taking an early lead and keeping the other team from being able to catch up.  Danny had a great catch at 3rd, a double, and a hit he was able to turn into a double on an error.  He felt like she could have played better but I thought he did great.  On Tuesday I had to exercise some self control because I really wanted to take a picture of 5 members of the baseball team watching The Fast & The Furious in our basement after school.  The original plan was for them to walk from the middle school to the high school together to watch the high school baseball game. Somehow it was canceled due to a problem with the outfield. Danny asked if they could walk to our house together and hang out there for about an hour while they waited for their parents to be able to come pick them up. Of course I said yes and then panic cleaned the basement and Danny’s room. Lol. Consensus seems to be they want to come over again. Even though the basement smelled like a boys locker room after only about 20 minutes I would be happy to let Danny host again. Such a neat group of boys!

On Wednesday it was Hubby’s turn to take Danny to a baseball game while I took care of the girls and prepared to evacuate the house if necessary due to a wildfire.  Luckily the all clear was given before the game even started and I could listen to the game on the GaneChanger app. Michelle, Natalie, A, E, S and I even listened as we drove up to the church building for Activity Days and Young Womens.  They turned it into a kind of telephone game, telling each other in order what the app had just announced.  How I adore this group of girls!

Then, on Saturday while Hubby was in North Carolina with Kate, Michelle and I went to watch Danny's double header on a chilly/windy spring morning.  W's mom made all the boys baseball themed treats!  The first game was an easy win (7-0) even with my son getting ejected from the game for swearing and thereby being an automatic out every time his name came up in the batting order.  His PE teacher picked a great game to come watch and sit next to me.  It's going to take a while for him to live this one down but I liked Kate's text response best: "Your momma didn't raise a sailor."  The next game didn't include any misdeeds on Danny's part & he had a great catch in the outfield and a solid hit to first that I caught on video but most of the game I was just trying to stay warm in the wind.  Sadly, they lost 8-11 in a very close game but the coach was great to point out that they were still in great standing in their league.  He has a great way of being instructional and positive at the same time.  And, he gave all the families printed out pictures (tiles) of the team and it already looks great on Danny's wall.  The people I meet through sports sure do make me feel like the world is full of wonderful folks.  Speaking of excellent humans, my middle kids were amazing supports to me while their little sister was at our next door neighbor's birthday slumber party (she had fun!) and I woke up with a migraine.  Until my Excedrin kicked in they did things like walk the dog (M) and let me borrow their sunglasses (D) so I could drive the car in more comfort.  Although I could have done with more heat & less wind, I was actually grateful it was a cloudy day to watch baseball.

Play softball:

Natalie had a double header and I was so proud of her focus and hustle.  She was always ready to go get or catch the ball no matter what position she was playing and ran the bases well.  It’s so great to have some of the same teammates as last spring and see them cheering each other on.  Definitely a different feel and pace to watching her brother play baseball. Danny actually had a double header at the same time as hers so my parents went to watch near their house while I went with Natalie near ours and I listened to his games via the GameChanger app.  Danny got some good RBIs and one of his teammates got a home run!

AND Natalie got to go on a field trip to the aquarium pre pandemic style!  She had a wonderful time riding the bus and being there with her classmates to learn about sharks and look all around.  Her best friend’s momma got to tag along and sent me great pictures like this one.  As they were leaving there was a bit of excitement because a fire alarm went off but everything was ok and they rode back home on the buses just as planned.  So grateful she got to do something like this!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
