In Full Swing + 50 Years

I was so excited to watch Danny’s first scrimmage of the season.  Although I missed the first inning where his team scored a lot of runs while taking Kate to volleyball practice, I got there in time to see Danny hit a beautiful double.  After the game the boys got new uniforms and another practice shirt.  Those jerseys are so nice!  We were close to Cafe Rio so I thought I would pick up dinner for the family but Danny had the great idea to eat there.  It was a blast to hear stories from school and sports and friends.  This reminded me we have gotten out of the habit of having dates with all the kids so that tradition is going back on the calendar asap.  He was also super polite to the employee when we dashed into Dick’s to see what kind of cleats they had in stock  but there was nothing we liked.  I commented on how polite he was and Danny responded, “I get it from somewhere” and looked at me.  How did this kid grow up so fast?  I feel like college is right around the corner in moments like this. At times like this I also feel just so darn grateful I get to be this boy’s mom.

The last week of March the exterior of our home got painted.  I didn’t want to stray too far from the original colors and it seems to be well received!  My favorite part is how the windows appear larger.  Our windows are something I love about our house.  I’m still getting used to it every time I come home.  I actually think it looks even better in the dark when we have our Jellyfish lighting on.

One of my favorite parts of my day is when I get to see people I love.  Here’s a photo of my viola player who was in the hall getting some extra help learning her part for Hallelujah when I went on my morning break.  I teased the assistant orchestra teacher to let me know if Michelle caused any trouble and that’s how the cello lady found out I was “Mom.”  Our praise made this 6th grader blush, which is so much fun. It was even more fun than when I got to walk past a fire drill at another school with a student and got to see a wonderful friend who blew me kisses and children from my primary class and activity days.

Natalie was so excited for her first softball practice she wore her softball pants (that she’s finally big enough for) to school.  To add to the joy, Hubby is her assistant coach this season!

Natalie, Hubby, and I were Danny's fan club for the first day of the first tournament of the season.  She and I were there for the entire five hours.  The first game was very back and forth but luckily Danny's team pulled off a 9-8 victory even though someone lost the ball in the outfield.  The second game was not the same story.  The first inning it was three up & three out.  Not the way you want to begin the game if you are on the hitting side of that.  The photo above is from when Danny hit a beautiful double to help two of this teammates score to lose 2-15 instead of 0-15.  The coach was really great about it and reminded them that they are still in it.  I feel so grateful for Danny's coaches!  Funny side note: at the second baseball game of the tournament when Natalie and I returned from the bathroom:
Natalie: those bathrooms are not fun
Hubby: bathrooms aren’t supposed to be fun
N: they are really loud.  And I’m a kid so I can hear!
One of the other moms made me promise to write that down.  (:
Day two of the tournament Hubby took Danny early on a chilly morning while us girls stayed home and I kept up with the game via GameChanger while I got things done I was unable to do the day before.  At one point I thought there was something wrong with the app because it stayed 5-3 for a long time.  Their last game seemed to be very back and forth like their first one and they ended up losing by one run.  Between his tournament and going to watch the new Batman movie in the theater with Hubby, Kate, & P, he was so tired!

Happy 50th Anniversary to my Mom & Dad!  We celebrated pre-Covid style with nine of us at Texas Roadhouse (Kate brought Presley along) and my parents even let me take a picture of just the two of them.  When we were done taking pictures my mom said, "Here's to another 50 years!" and my dad replied, "I'll die first."  He had her laughing so hard.  I want to be dead before I'm 125 years old too.  lol.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
