Fall Ball

I am sure I’ve already conveyed how proud I am of Danny for working hard and trying new things but I’m going to say it again.  I feel like Danny has risen to the challenge of being on a 13U baseball team and dealt well with the major adjustment to being on the middle school basketball team.  It has been a joy watching him play on both his intramural team and the B travel team.  Danny gives it 100% and doesn’t give up even though he definitely gets frustrated.  During an intramural game (where he wore 32) he made a layup to win the game with only 5 seconds remaining. I wish I had a video of his team reacting to winning such a close game!

Due to some quarantined players Danny got to be a starter on the A travel team in a match up against our middle school’s rivals. Hubby, Michelle and I were all there to cheer him on.  He felt like he didn’t play up to his potential but the next day my co-worker who was keeping score said she thought he did great.  No matter what it’s a good experience to play on the A team before making it to 8th grade AND he got asked to play on the A team again for the next away game. I was so glad Hubby could leave work early to go watch Danny play while I finished up at school and went home to be with the girls.

His intramural team finished their season in the top half of teams so had one more chance to play.  Sadly, they lost their opportunity to play in the championship game by only one basket.  Then, while playing for 3rd place, they fought hard and went into double overtime but lost by one basket yet again.  It was pretty intense and I was glad I could be there to watch so I could understand how he felt.

The middle schoolers finished up their season by traveling on a Saturday morning to go beat the middle school one of Danny's good baseball friends goes to.  Danny requested to play on the B team and the coaches let him.  It was a close game but our boys pulled through for a victory.  Danny did have to take a little time on the bench after getting his 4th foul.  Ah hem.  While his mom was embarrassed his dad was proud.  lol.  We did have a scary moment when one of the A team players had a seizure but then I remembered one of their coaches had been a paramedic for 20 years so I knew he was in good hands.  All is ok now but I am sure he was disappointed he didn't get to play.  I feel intensely grateful my children get to go to such a good middle school was such talented staff members like these basketball coaches.

We finished up our kickball season with a victory! It’s pretty funny to see people’s reactions to hearing there is a kickball league for grown ups. A big thank you to my mom for babysitting and taking Michelle to dance class for us on Thursday nights!  We couldn’t have done this without her support!

Kate began practicing with her travel volleyball team the day after fall baseball ended.  She has two practices plus a session of strength and conditioning every week. I look forward to seeing her play this year and to take her places she has never been before.

P.S. Danny’s team ended fall baseball with a single elimination tournament in which they played really well. They won by quite a lot in their first game with highlights being S. hitting a 3 run home run in the same inning Danny hit a triple that hit the fence. The next team they played was really good but they managed to keep it a close game. Even though they lost 3-6 the grown ups were very proud of how well the Vibes played.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
