Well, that time of year came and went when I have to say I'm a year older once again. I am so grateful to family who went out of their way to make my day special and friends who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. Over Labor Day weekend my parents took me out to eat at Red Robin and my in-laws paid for my new pedicure. I am truly fortunate that my entire life I have been surrounded by wonderful humans. And Weezer and Fall Out Boy and Green Day helped me celebrate as well! The tickets I purchased back in January of 2020 finally came in handy when the Hella Mega Tour arrived in Denver and I loved it. My favorite part was singing Good Riddance with Billie Joe Armstrong. I have had that song memorized for over half my life and felt like it was the best way to end a wonderful concert with my handsome Hubby. After posting online we discovered that friends of ours were there too. So fun! I was a little worried about getting up and being a mom and para the next day but I was just fine. Good thing I ended hosting book club earlier than normal the night before in preparation, though. I can only handle so much partying now. Lol.
Speaking of parties, Danny got to attend a 24 hour long birthday party and still managed to wake up on time for school that Monday morning. I am so grateful that he could hang out with friends and go boating the next day. From all I could see (parents were allowed to come to the first part with a yummy bbq) and what he told me after he got home, it was magnificent. I loved being able to talk to neighbors I haven't been able to chat with for a long time and was sad but excited to leave to go to Mark & Sara's wedding open house that same night. It was so great to see the R. family and friends from our old ward. The R. family will always hold a special place in my heart and I am so indebted to them for all the help they provided to us when our children were little. Pictured below is M giving N a piggy back ride at almost 10pm. They were such good clean up helpers alongside Hubby and I.
That wasn't the end of the parties either! Danny's new baseball team has a swim party that Hubby got to represent at while I took Kate & C. & Natalie to the mall. K got her ears re-pierced after years of going without (because one of the holes was off center). We also got lots of back to school shopping done and kind of shopped 'til we dropped. As we paid for things at different stores I couldn't help but calculate how many hours I would have to work to pay these bills and was relieved my husband is capable of earning much more money than I am.
Danny's first scrimmage with his new team didn't go as well as he hoped but it seems like a great group of boys with excellent coaches. I was grateful I could sit with Hubby to watch and also talk to a couple of the other team family members we knew from years ago. I think it's going to be an adjustment but good in the long run. I feel the same way about me working outside of the home. There have definitely been some adjustment pains and Hubby has had to take on things he didn't have to in the past to keep us going on a daily basis but I truly feel it will be beneficial to us in the end. Luckily we can still do things like have Activity Days together as well as cheering on sports. I have to keep reminding myself that I wouldn't be able to volunteer at the elementary school with Covid restrictions anyway. And I only go to work when the children go to school anyway. Truly, the dog seems to be the one taking my absence from home the hardest even though I spend my lunch walking to and from the house checking on her. Poor baby thinks she exists to follow me around the house and doesn't know what to do with herself while I'm away. How do we get a dog a job? Don't say therapy dog, though. She's still scared of strangers.
