Summer Winds

I have spent $50/week on gas taking my children to and from places and it feels like summer.  On one of those car rides to dance class Michelle and I got to see a tornado!  (It was from the ground up instead of from the sky down and the weather around us was perfectly fine so I didn’t even realize it was one until the alert on my phone went off.)  Natalie was a bit worried to still go to her softball game but I convinced her to go because it would be in the opposite direction so she would be farther away than if she stayed home. (This tornado photo was taken by one of our neighbors.)
Speaking of softball, we worked hard for the following team photo. Lol. Natalie and I dropped off Danny at baseball practice at B.W.  Then we headed to M.P. for team photos. We knew we were worried but after a while we realized most of the team wasn’t there and we couldn’t see a photographer so we messaged the coach. He sent back that the photographer must be at B.W.  Natalie and I laughed that would could have stayed with Danny and got back in the car. Most of team arrived but no photographer there either.  Then some parents who had arrived late to M.P. messaged and said the photographer had finally arrived. So we said hi and bye to Danny, laughed at his reaction to our surprise appearance, and got back in the car. By the time all the pictures we taken the girls had less than 10 minutes to warm up for their game and it was time for me to pick up Danny from baseball practice. So back to B.W. I went to pick up my favorite boy and then back to M.P. for the two of us to watch Natalie’s softball game. Comical. I was grateful Ellie B. was working the concession stand at M.P. again so that we could have an timely, easy dinner of hot dogs and hamburgers. Meanwhile, Hubby was taking care of dance class and grass volleyball practice and got the three of them Culver’s. Busy but in a good way! I love seeing them having a good time and we are all slowly adjusting to a world that no longer requires face masks for fully vaccinated individuals.  It was such a joy to watch Michelle perform on stage without a mask on!  We’ve seen her perform her competition piece many times but never got to see that smile as she spotted us in the audience.  Her smile was huge when she realized Hubby had gotten home in time from Danny’s baseball tournament to make it to her second show. Natalie and I had gone to the first one to watch her A3 (pink and purple costume) performance while my parents watched the live broadcast from our house. Then I dropped her off and picked him up and she watched with my parents but did inform them being in person was much better. (Only two tickets per family were allowed.)

I caught this photo while the boys were warming up but I tell you what: Danny is always in the outfield because he can really throw that ball!  He also played well at the tournament in Greeley and I was thrilled I was able to capture his triple on video.  So fun to be there watching him play!
I'm back tracking a little bit now but Michelle's two dance shows were only half of her performances for that week.  She also played the role of Muse #5 and a Titan for the Disney musical version of Hercules.  They only had a week and a half to prepare and they did great.  It was a joy to see her in both a fancy gold dress and portraying a monster in the same hour.Part of Michelle's fan club on Wednesday night and part of her fan club for Thursday afternoon.

It may sound like we are super busy but I promise it doesn't feel that way because we have down time too.    Some examples are hanging out in the new swimming pool and lemonade stands for my youngest two, plenty of video games for my boy, hanging out with friends for my oldest doing things like going on bike rides and hanging out at our favorite outdoor city pool with the other middle schoolers.  And for me?  I love walking around our beautiful part of town whether I'm walking the dog, checking out the sunset, or walking with some of the women in my ward early in the morning.  I love the warmth and fun summer brings.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
