The 2nd Half of February

The day after Valentine’s Day my public school kids had off school so K and D went to a rock climbing camp in the afternoon and N and I ran errands before her beloved soccer class. She had been asking me every day if it was time for soccer again. She is absolutely loving it.

On President’s Day we got to spend time with our beloved friends, the P. Family for the first time in way too long. L also had her niece and nephew with her so we got to meet more members of their family and of course the little girl loved K and couldn’t care less that I existed. K is a toddler magnet and loves them right back. That truly warms my heart. It was such a joy to spend the day together doing things we haven’t done for a long time. Plus, we got to be out of the house on a day that was only 16° out. Certainly feeling like winter around here lately.

M had the entire week off school but on Tuesday she wasn’t feeling too well so we were pretty calm and watched some Love Your Garden. Wednesday she was feeling better for our chiropractor appointments and for making spaghetti and ice cream with the Activity Days girls. On Thursday M sold Girl Scout cookies, came with me to the car wash and got to have a play date with A. N got to have a play date with her friend A on Thursday too. I didn’t realize it at first but their names are so much alike and they are both twins. Fun little coincidence. Friday we sold cookies to the M family in our old ward, went to the library, the dentist/orthodontist and ate at M’s favorite restaurant in the same building for lunch before picking N up from E’s house. We got to read a little on the sofa before heading off to N’s soccer class. Before we knew it the week was over and I couldn’t believe how fast it went.

N was so exited to go to her best friend’s puppy themed birthday party she was completely ready 2 hours early. All the children got to wear puppy dog ear head bands and collars with whatever puppy name they chose. They had so much fun! While N was there I took M to horse back riding lessons and she is learning so much and Hubby took D to martial arts. D got to talk to his friend, H, who moved back to Germany last summer for over an hour on the WhatsUp app. H’s mom told me their family misses Colorado and H was so happy to talk to an old friend. I’m feeling so grateful for technology and Hubby said he was 23 years old before he could talk to a girl that long on the phone.
K’s volleyball coach is really proud of her and so am I. The shoes Hubby bought her seem to be helping her dig in. Since her tournament the last weekend of February required her to be far away and ready to go at 7:30 in the morning we reserved a hotel room and it was my turn to get to go. Other than a little drama when my mini van wouldn’t start the night before, all went pretty well. Luckily her teammate A and her parents could come to us and watch them go down the huge slide at our hotel pool while I had the mini van checked at Pep Boys. I could not have asked for better customer service and they said everything checked out ok and not to worry. I was relieved when the van started just fine in the morning. We stayed up too late watching the Disney Channel so K looked like she was going to fall asleep being the line judge during the first game of the morning. I was so proud of K’s hustle and wish I was a better photographer because she had some great moments. K reminded me of her cousin, A, when she was at the net during her 2nd game. It’s so much more fun to play when you’re winning!

Much to our surprise, we had another family member come out to Denver for work & we got to go down and eat dinner with him while he was in the state.  We loved our short time with Mark and somehow the children convinced us to go shopping at H&M on our way back to the mini van.  (N came home with new shoes, M & D with new sweaters, and K with a new outfit, complete with socks.)

Somewhere in all this half of us went to the dentist, D went to Asher's birthday party, we hosted Activity Days and Girl Scouts and play dates, had cello & viola lessons, did homework, Hubby and I went on a date to the annual stake adult activity (thanks to my mom babysitting) and laughed so hard playing the game Curses with our friends the Jacobsons that used to be in the LHC Ward with us, finished up the cookie booths, D went to martial arts & M went to her horse riding lessons and K to Young Women's and volleyball practice, the 3 oldest children all had field trips they didn't really like (K & M to different orchestra performances & D to the fairgrounds to learn about farming), K and D worked on their science fair projects and we celebrated a 200th wedding anniversary with my parents, who brought the ice cream cake with them.  Why, you may ask?  One day Family Search send my dad an email saying they thought they found a marriage record for one of his ancestors.  Even though they sent him the wrong document, when my dad went to look he did find the correct marriage license, which led to learning the names of their parents (which he didn't know before), which in turn led to him finding other documents and now that line of the family goes back 3 more generations than it used to!  How exciting to see birth dates in the 1700s.  My dad was also able to find a picture of the church some of our family members got married in (in Germany)    both what it looks like today and a picture of it from 100 years ago.  Something to celebrate for sure.  I look forward to taking some of those names to the temple with my dad in March.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
