Looking at my calendar & to do list in March had a tendency to raise my heart rate & breathing!
We survived me being the cookie mom! If this is not a big deal to you, let’s just say I spent about 15 hours just getting all the numbers right in the computer and depositing the money. For just that part. It has been hard on our whole family and I have promised to never ever do that again. I was pleasantly surprised that even though I felt like I was neglecting my own daughters in their sales, M was still that top seller in her troop and N sold the second most in her troop. A big thank you to all those who purchased Girl Scout cookies this year! Now that cookie season is over I am trying to catch up on all the things I didn’t get done while I was working on cookie stuff. Case in point? When I gave A & M a ride home from school they couldn’t help but notice my mini van was dirtier than normal but they were very sweet about it. I do enjoy the car pool C & I have set up of each of us having an extra kid day and a day off. It especially helps N to it have to go once a week. We have filled out all the paperwork so M will be at the Waldorf school again next year but N will be in 1st grade so won’t have to go down anymore. And luckily the middle school gets out after the elementary school so even though I will need to juggle three different schools it will all work out all right.
This month D got to go skiing with Hubby, we got lots of great new books at the public library thanks to the suggestions of the Scholastic Book Club fliers, D is still having cello lessons and M still has her viola lessons and really likes the next strings teacher at her school too. I had my annual check up and was diagnosed with Seasonal Effectiveness Disorder so now I own a special light I am supposed to sit in front of. I can’t tell if it’s really working yet but I definitely think it’s worth a try. K and D finished their Inquiry Expo projects and all my public school kids got awards on the same day. Once a month there is a ceremony by grade so my parents joined me to watch D receive an academic achievement award, K receive a 5 B’s award and N receive a spirit award. I’m so proud of them and glad I don’t usually have to go to their school 5 times in one day. Lol. Hubby spent the entire next day at the school being one of the Inquiry Expo judges so he definitely put in his time there this year!
The next day M had parent teacher conferences and of course that went well and the weather was nice enough the girls got to play on the play ground for a little while after I met the new strings teacher. We are so ready for spring! Every day the sun is out or the temperature is above freezing is a day that is easier for all of us. We are counting down the days (literally with a count down chain) until we can fly to San Diego over spring break. Hoping the weather cooperates and makes us feel all warm inside and we make some great memories together.
Speaking of memories, we took M’s friend A to the Butterfly Pavilion on a day M had an early release. We haven’t been for almost a year and K and D weren’t interested so I set up play dates for them (K at Q’s house and D at S’s house) so that we wouldn’t be rushed. Everyone seemed to have a great day!
D, M and N enjoyed going to the “melt down” party at the local ice pavilion with Hubby. They got to paint on the ice in between going in ovals around the rink. I stayed home with K and she wanted to go to a new neighborhood park near Q’s house. It was such a nice day I took the dog for a walk and she did well but also wanted to turn around and go home as soon as we caught up to K and I. I listened to a talk by President Nelson as we walked and I was grateful for the peace I could feel as we enjoyed the outdoors. I am glad we could have that time before 2 snow days with no snow later that week! D’s field trip to the state capitol and class picture day, Young Womens and our Girl Scout meeting had to be cancelled. We did crafts and watched a movie and played with neighbors the days seemed to go by pretty fast (except for N, who got a stomach bug, poor thing).
Also that week Hubby and I attended a post adoption support group meeting with a special presenter on suicide while my mom babysat and it was hard to be there but good information. I am glad we already found a good therapist our children feel comfortable around. Hubby took K to have dinner with her birth mother and it went really well. K came home calm and happy and curious and informed me her birth mother is prettier than I am but I already knew that. K asked me questions at bed time about her birth father and she insisted I tell her how he had died. I about cried telling K he took his own life but I couldn’t lie. She hasn’t mentioned it since but I hope she will again later because I assume that even though she never met him she still cares. I know Hubby and I do. Meanwhile, my mom & I took D, M & N to the BYU International Folk Dance Ensemble performance because we heard they still needed to sell tickets for that night. My mom and D sat up front (due to D's request) and M & N insisted we sit in the back and luckily M's friend E was back there.
The day after two snow days M had her school’s curriculum night and she did a wonderful job performing (according to Hubby & my dad who went to watch), I attended my first Relief Society activity in who knows how long, and K got to help her best friend celebrate her birthday by going to an escape room and watching the movie Jaws.
On Saturday all 6 of us giant nerf battle before D went to martial arts and M went to her horse riding lesson. That afternoon we took K’s friend, A, to watch our niece play in the Colorado Crossroads volleyball tournament. We watched her two games for the day and then we all went to Casa Bonita’s for dinner afterwards. I’m pretty sure my sister in law was doubting our sanity in going there but the kids think it’s amazing. It was great to see Addie & Stacie & Trent and I realized we have been very lucky to have 3 of Hubby's 7 siblings see us in the last month.

Church on Sunday was exactly what I needed. Brother & Sister J. gave the best talks on unity I've ever heard & Brother P. led a great Sunday School lesson on things like Jesus calming the tempest. I think lately I've been having such a hard time holding it together because I'm not asking for divine assistance. I'm asking for forgiveness when I mess up and once in a while I pray for God to help my husband at work & my kids while they are at school but I'm not truly asking for real help that only God can provide. I have honestly gotten to the point where if it isn't on the calendar or the reminders on my phone it probably isn't going to happen.
On Monday I enjoyed having lunch with two wonderful women (S.L. & S.H.) at Chick Fil A on Monday so that a couple kindergarteners could play while we talked (that was N’s idea). It worked out great and I felt lucky to have some time to spend with them. It is amazing how much you have in common but don’t know unless you actually have a chance to sit down together.
We have another 9-year-old at our house! I am so thankful this kind and talented girl is part of our family. On her birthday her class went on a field trip to Z’s farm but still had time to make her birthday cards that were mostly filled with drawings of pandas. Her classmates know her well. If you’re stuck having your birthday on a school day, what a wonderful thing to have a special field trip on the same day. What M really wanted to do for her birthday was eat at Casa Bonita’s (which we were able to do after volleyball) and take a friend to watch “How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World” in the movie theater, and have my parents over for dinner and to have ice cream cake, which she got to pick out at Dairy Queen. M was thrilled that I could take her friend from school, C, with us on a school night to watch HTTYD and we all loved the movie. We found out that the movie stopped playing that same week so her birthday had perfect timing. Happy 9th, M! We are so glad you are part of our family!

M & I came home to a surprise — Hubby and my mom were babysitting three children while their mom took their dad to the hospital. Shout out to K for taking such good care of the baby! They ended up spending the night and then the next night we had already offered to host our friends, the G family, on their way from Utah to Kansas to attend a grandparent’s funeral. It was wonderful to see them after so long and have them in our home. We definitely need to get together more often. So basically we had lots of company in the middle of the school week but still managed to get people where they were going mostly on time and hold Activity Days and have a clean house. It’s kind of amazing that all worked out. Sadly for Hubby, M, N and I all came down sick so he had to play super dad after coming home from work and cook and take K to practice and do dishes while I was in bed. Hooray for this man! We might be crawling our way to spring break but I think we’ll make it!
Our dog, Meigo, turned 15 years old on Friday! N and I drug our sick selves to PetSmart & Sprouts to buy lots of dog treats and human treats so we wouldn't be sharing our germs for the special occasion. Later our friend K.T. came over to take pictures of her. I am so glad she did! I adore these photos of our wonderful canine. We are so grateful our neighbors came to help us celebrate. K and M had worked hard on the 3 doggie invitations and it was so nice so be together with the dogs providing plenty of cuteness and entertainment. Happy 15th birthday, beautiful dog! You are the best!
