March Mayhem

There was no better way to start off the month than having us make our oldest two children spit into tubes.  Highly entertaining.  After all those 23AndMe commercials during the Olympics we opted to have the health test done on K and D since we don't have the greatest medical or family history records for them.  If we like the results, maybe the rest of us will all spit into a tube too!

On the way home from one of K's appointments she begged to go to the Apple Store.  Long story short, Hubby showed up too and I walked away with a new phone and I am totally in love with my new camera.  Portrait mode is my favorite!  It's great for play dates and Kona Ice and Activity Days.  (I am now officially one of the leaders instead of being the counselor over it.  Now, instead of helping out where needed I get to come every time and plan half the time.  The timing is really fun too because this is the month M began to attend as well.)

I am so proud of the hard work K has been putting into practicing for Acro class and so is her teacher.  She even got a post card from her teacher talking about it.  N also got a really neat award at school for being a great friend.  There is no better award for a preschooler to have.  So happy!

The biggest news we've had for years is that Hubby is replacing the car we bought as newlyweds almost 15 years ago with a new truck after receiving a promotion and raise at work.  The family is totally in love with it but we haven't let go of our 18-year-old Passat yet.  Once in a while N and I will take it out to run errands instead of the mini van.  Eventually we will donate it but right now the registration is still valid so we'll enjoy having another option to drive around in for a while.  Congrats, Hubby!  You've worked hard and definitely earned it!

We were thrilled to have our niece, Addie, come visit us when her volleyball team was competing about an hour south of us.  Touring a candy factory and enjoying the cheesy humor of Casa Bonita's for hours was on the list of fun things to do with your cousin.  It was a blast busting the older 3 out of school early to do so.  Then we dropped her off with her team and enjoyed having her back after the tournament was over.

Meigo the dog insisted on coming with us while A was here and N provided some good laughs at the dentist getting a cleaning.  When she had her check with the orthodontist later she acted so grown up I felt like I didn't even need to be there.  He asked her things like, "Do you like preschool?" and she replied, "No.  I LOVE it!"  Her recent response to being asked how she's doing is "Amazing!"

It's easier to say good bye when you're being silly.  (:

And play dates are even better when the weather is nice enough to go to your favorite park and play in the sand.

One day while N was in preschool and at a friend's house I got to chaperone M's field trip to go see the 6th grade play.  I was surprised to see children of that age performing a twist on Shakespeare's Twelth Night and they did an amazing job.  I'm so glad I was able to go because that humorous tale of mistaken identity would have been pretty hard for me to grasp since M had no idea "This Way and That" was indeed based on the Bard's work.

Also while N was playing at a friend's house, I got to help out at tile math and actually managed to steal a picture of my favorite son working on it.  I really should get a photo of him reading Harry Potter -- he's been spending hours on The Prisoner of Azkaban lately and loving it.  He even called me while I was out due to M's rock climbing class last night to talk about how Peter Pettigrew is Scabbers.  He's still convinced Sirius Black is a bad guy, though.  At least he knows Lupin is nice.  We are already planning a trip for just the two of us when he is in 5th grade to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando.  It's so fun to have someone to share books with.  I've actually listened to a few books lately that were assigned to read in school so that I can talk to them about it.  Came in handy with K's last Nightbird assignment too!  I don't think I could have helped her with that homework if I hadn't have read the book!  I also read The Birchbark House (so sad!) for her and Lemonade War for D and Challenger Deep (so powerful!) for Addie.  I am also enjoying discussing books like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society with some of the preschool moms.  Works out so well to come together for a big play date and talk while husbands are at work and older siblings are at school.  I am so grateful for the wonderful humans around me.
Two more quick additions: N enjoying one of her best friend's birthday parties and another play date at our house.  (:

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
