Divide and conquer… bring in reinforcements

D begged and begged to do Cub Scouts and Flag Football this year.  I told him he could do both and we are in the middle of selling Scout popcorn right now.  Wow, that stuff is expensive!  I was so grateful most of our neighbors were willing to buy some or donate to the military fund to donate popcorn to our troops.  D loves flag football.  But guess when his practices are?  One practice is the same evening that I go to Activity Days as a leader with K and Husband was asked to help out with the Cub Scouts at church.  So, that night every week, Grandma comes over in time for K and I to head to AD, Hubby comes home early from work in time for Grandma to take D to football, and I arrive home in time for Hubby to drive to the church to do his calling.  Grandma and D get home after Hubby is gone and all the children are in bed by the time he gets back.  Grandma also put A TON of time into planning the activities Hubby does with his den so that is one less thing our family has to juggle.  Thanks, Mom!!!  Once football is over in November life will seem so much easier again.
K is continuing with Activity Days twice a month and decided to give Girl Scouts a try.  She knows many of the girls in the troop she is now a member of and it is a great way to be around them and try new things.  She began to think about it when M was selling GS cooking last winter.  Maybe she just really wants more access to Thin Mints.  (;

M is still a Daisy in GS and I continue to be one of her leaders and my mom continues to prepare activities for the meetings.  The meetings are at our house this year so Grandma babysits upstairs while M and I are in the basement with the troop.  Two girls decided not to join us again this year and have 3 new girls that are great.  At times it will be tricky to have both Daisies and Brownies in the troop together but Grandma came up with a really great way for us to do many things together and some things apart so that the Daisies will earn their 3 Cheers for Animals Journey and the Brownies will earn their World of Girls Journey.  M will be signing up for enrichment classes through the school after football is over.  She is wise enough to know that being too busy isn’t as great as it sounds.

N is very proud of being an honorary GS and is still loving preschool.  We have gotten to the point that if she doesn’t have a play date with her preschool friends she gets super sad.  This week we had A.H. and M.T. over after M told her mother she had to come play with N’s toys and A began to sob.  Those girls love each other so!  N sometimes attends drop in at Stacey’s but only once every couple of weeks.  Sometimes she just gets so bored with only me around!

Since N is gone a few hours a week I decided I could up my involvement at the school.  So far I am one of K’s room moms and we have the Halloween party all ready to go!  I will be in N’s classroom once a month and will try to figure out how to get in D and M’s rooms once a month as well.  I promised D and M I will be their room moms when they are in 3rd grade as well.  That way I only have to figure out one grade for a while!  I am still the 1st Counselor in the ward primary and experienced putting together a Sacrament meeting presentation all by myself for the first time.  Took me an entire week of free time but it’s done now!  I still do the book club emails and now do the event emails for K’s GS troop.  Some days I feel like I bit off more than I can chew but I think it should slow down now that big things are planned out and we are getting used to the new school year.

(There are times when all this goes so well together.  For instance, the FHE we had after the temple open house fulfilled requirements for all 3 children and so did an FHE on nutrition in September.  K and M are almost done with the Snacks badge and D was able to finish the requirements for his Running with the Pack belt loop.)

 so happy to see siblings at school pick up in the afternoon

B took me out to eat for a belated birthday celebration while N played at M's house.  It was a fantastic introduction to Peruvian food and drinks like Inca Kola.  I had such a good time!  Can't wait to take Hubby back there on a date one night.

N made a friend at the public library (a boy name A) that we often meet at the park to play with.  Below is a picture of our family skipping rocks at A's birthday party at Flander's Park.  Such a nice family to get to know.

 Our former neighbor, D, joined us for our neighborhood Oktoberfest this fall.  We had already invited him over for dinner before the community potluck was changed from lunch time to the evening.  When we found out he hadn't seen The Force Awakens yet, we watched it together in the basement.  The children were thrilled to stay up past their bedtime!  At one point I tried to put N to sleep upstairs but she wanted to be with her siblings so much I gave up.  I couldn't believe she could stay awake that long!  Feeling so grateful for wonderful neighbors and our home.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
