Well, everyone in this family is enrolled in school now except me. This is Hubby's last semester of his master's degree, my oldest 3 continue on as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders, and my youngest is away from me two mornings a week -- boo hoo! N loves going to school with her older siblings and misses them when they are not around. She loves telling everyone she meets about her friends, A & A & M. It is adorable. I am adjusting to having only one at home -- this hasn't happened since 2009 and I've never had a 3-year-old that didn't have a younger sibling before. It is quite fun but I still don't get a lot done. lol. This paragraph is only for people who like TMI:
I considered naming this blog post "Aftermath." Turns out leaving the family reunion in Oregon a day early still meant missing the first day of school for my children. I found out the names of their teachers and room numbers by calling the school on back to school night earlier in the day. I began emailing and texting their best friends to see who was in their class. D was the most excited to get the teacher M had last year but they all have great teachers and friends in their classes this year! What a relief! Coming home late at night from the airport and then having to be on time the next day was akin to a cruel joke. They had enjoyed not only adventure and the company of extended family but also a very laid back, anything goes thing going on at the beach house. Junk food, screen time and bedtime routines are monitored at home but I had a hard time fighting the 37 other people that were there. It was utter chaos the first day of school. It had been 60 degrees when we left the beach house and 90 degrees when N and I picked K, D & M up from school. M began to cry as she told me about how long 1st grade is and that a 2nd grader accidentally ate her lunch because they have the same lunchbox and that it was too hot to ride her bike home. K had a full on anxiety attack that morning at drop off, which led the pediatrician to put her on anti-anxiety medication after years of wondering if meds would help. K says she likes the medicine but I don't like the way it turns her into a slug half the time. We have a follow up appointment next week and an appointment scheduled with a pediatric psychologist after that. Do you know they charge $370/hour and don't work with insurance? Ouch. Whatever it takes to make her world easier to handle.
And so the school year begins! Let's hope the ending isn't as rocky as the beginning!
