Easter 2014

According to my Facebook newsfeed, purple seemed to be the color of the year for Easter dresses.  Either that or all my friends shop at Costco like we do.  We enjoyed our first Easter in our new home.  Dan took this picture in front of the ornamental purple crabapple we had planted last year and used the bar stools we purchased for the island.  Yay!

The FHE before we made palm tree branches by tracing the children's hands and had a little procession.  My super nice husband played the donkey and I figured it was the least sacrilegious to put the baby in as the role of Jesus.  She, however, decided that she wanted to wave palm branches instead, and soon the role was shared by M & D too.

When I set up the co-op preschool calendar this year I made sure to put the letter E in the week before Easter.  The children's favorite activity was going on an Easter egg hunt.  They didn't mind at all that there were pictures of things that began with the letter E instead of candy -- they were just excited to be on a hunt.
Our neighborhood held a hunt and potluck lunch on Easter Sunday as well.  I think we have the best neighbors in the whole world.  Some days the children ask to move back to the old house but I can't imagine leaving the great set up we have here.  I think this summer is going to be full of old fashioned fun.  Oh, and for the summer, I bold the children an EZroller that was on sale and I had a gift card for and it has been a big hit.  They also got some little presents too that K helped me pick out on a date.  She got Despicable Me 2 & the Little Mermaid song & story cd, D got a TMNT and a bad guy for his 2 turtles to fight and the Jake & the Neverland Pirates song & story cd, and M got a Flynn Rider doll and the Sophia the 1st song and story cd.  I think Danny may have his story memorized already from what I could tell in the car today.
The Sunday after Easter we visited our old ward to hear a friend's missionary farewell with one of our neighbors from the new neighborhood.  It was fun to dress up in purple again and see friends we haven't seen for a while.  And I hadn't had someone come to church with me since K had her baby blessing 6 years ago.  Hopefully she will join us again soon!

This Easter season I am grateful that I can teach my children they do not have to be afraid of people dying because of the Atonement.  I am grateful it gives me the courage to say I will try again when I mess up.  The Atonement gives me that glimmer of hope that someday all of my children will be happy and healthy, not just 3 of them.  Christ's love helps me be kind to others, especially when that may require a sacrifice on my part.  The Atonement helps me start over and try again to be a better wife and mother.  And don't even get me started counting blessings.  We'll be here all day.  All I can say is, Thank you, Lord.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
