Us girls in Denver

The night before President's Day our friend Maryann called up to ask if we could go to the DMNS with them.  Danny was already signed up for a soccer clinic and a date with my mom afterwards, so us girls headed to Denver without our boys.  This was our first time going with these friends and we had a blast.  Yes, we really like this place.  We finally branched out and didn't spend time in Space Odyssey even though we just had to hit up the Discovery Zone.  We also got to peak in on the new Discovery Zone that is set to open in June.  Doesn't look like much yet, but we'll still be back to see it this summer.  I felt like the new expansion was mostly wasted space -- lots of places it would have been better to put a floor in than leaving it open to the ceiling two or three floors above.  But if you've seen our new house, you know we don't have any of that up to the second floor stuff going on.  We maxed out the square footage to obtain a huge play room and still believe it was a great decision.

After the museum we noticed how wonderful the weather was and headed over to the zoo with just me and my girls.  We had lots of fun and stayed until closing time at 5pm.  I was worried Danny might be jealous, but he had so much fun at soccer and with my parents he didn't mind!  So here's to a great extra day off school.

Story time:
On the way to the DM of N & Science Kaelah was is a very talkative mood and I loved it.  She told me all about what she wanted her family to be like when she grew up.  At first she said she wanted 4 daughters.  Possible names she mentioned were Hannah, Sierra, Anna, and Sophia.  When I asked if she wanted all girls she changed her mind to say she wanted 3 boys and 3 girls with names like Trevor, Daniel, and William.  (There is some major Milam family influence in her names!)  She wants her husband to have a handsome name like Shane (I assume from the Pacifier movie) but not that name but one like it.  She wants to own a restaurant 2 hours away from Walt Disney World but realizes it will more likely be 3 hours away.  And she is going to be a really nice mom because she will buy expensive stuff and let her girls have all the Monster High dolls they want.  And the boys can have Chima legos and a Star Wars bedroom.  Her house is going to be like ours except there will be another bedroom next to the guest bedroom and it will be a store where her children can buy toys with smiley faces.  And the back yard will have a playground and big sand box.  She will also be a nice mom because she will buy her children iPads when they turn 8 years old and they can all have 3 phones.  After going over all this in much more detail than I have written down she said, "Wow.  I talked almost all the way to the museum.  My throat kind of hurts."  She then asked Michelle what she wanted her family to be like when she grew up.  Michelle simply said she didn't know.
P.S.  What got that conversation started was Kaelah saying, "Isn't it amazing how fast seven days can go by at Disney World?"  We talked about how we want to go back when K is 9 and M is 6 and N is 3. I said I wanted to take our family to Taiwan when K is in high school. That got her started on places she wanted to live (CA, UT, and China) and then that led to the rest.  Just listening to her made the gas money worth it.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
