A New Year

With the help of our wonderful new neighbors, we got to ring in the new year family style and still got to bed before midnight.  I keep telling myself that if my children would just sleep through the night I could stay up that late....

In January Michelle graduated from nursery and became a Sunbeam at church.  My visiting teaching companion, Katie T. and her husband are the team teachers and they are doing an amazing job.  I can't imagine a better fit to help Michelle adjust.  She is so proud that she can be in sharing time with her big brother and big sister now and does a marvelous job.  M has always been my calmest child, so I'm really not surprised.  This is a picture of her her last day in nursery, blowing bubbles.  I got all sentimental because this is the first time in 5 years I haven't had a child in the nursery.  Feels strange. Of course, with how active Natalie has been lately, I think I will be chomping at the bit for her to turn 18 months old and begin her time there.  (Below is an example of her at 9 months exploring.)
K turned 6.5 and Grandma Karyl made her a teddy bear ballerina cake.  My children get so excited for their half birthdays.  I am grateful my mother is able to carry on this tradition from my days as an only child.  The love that goes into homemade cakes is much more special than the Target cakes I would bring home.

Lisa got me to venture to the DMNS again.  This time 7 children ages 7 and under.  (0, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 -- Hannah and Natalie both came later than expected.  lol.)  It kept us on our toes.  I told Dan afterwards I felt like I had been to the gym.  It was that same happy kind of exhausted feeling.  Dan met us at Costco after work and we took 2 kids per cart and had a fun but tiring time there too but at least we didn't have to make dinner.  Gotta love eating at Costco.
The joint RS/YW activity was a blast.  I don't usually take pictures at these activities by I couldn't pass this opportunity up.  The county sheriff's office sent 3 trainers to teach us about self defense.  So much fun to see polite people trying to learn to beat others up.  I would recommend this activity to any congregation.

I also witnessed human fooseball for the first time.  I took Danny along to the combined YM/YW activity b/c I thought he would enjoy watching.  He did until he got a kickball straight to the face.  Totally blew my chances for winning mommy of the year.  In my defense, he was sitting in my lap on the sidelines.  Obviously I hadn't put him far away enough from the action.
Here's a story we don't have written down.  K had her birthday right before we moved. When we did we began attending a new ward (congregation).  When she came walking in with how tall she is and saying how old she was, they accidentally put her in the wrong primary class.  By the time we had that figured out it was almost the end of the year and she really liked the girls and teachers (Audra and Paul F.) she was with.  In January, when classes change in primary, she was placed in the proper age group -- with a bunch of boys!  Luckily two nice things happened:  her teachers threw a class party with our family got to attend (and we all had a great time) and K's good friend Diamari moved back.  Now she has another girl in her class that she has known since she was a baby.  What blessings!
For Dan's birthday my dad treated us to a meal at Texas Roadhouse.   We had a great time and are so grateful to have Dan as a son-in-law, husband, and father.  He does a tremendous job providing for our family, keeping me happy and sane by doing things like cleaning up the house, and caring for our children.  We truly are blessed to have him in our lives and wish him a wonderful year full of joy.  We love him sooooo much!
Here's a teaser for the next blog post: our Magic Bands arrived for our trip to Walt Disney World....

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
