Thanksgiving '13

What a treat to have some of Dan's family here for a major holiday -- that has never happened before!  Heck, most of Dan's family doesn't even read this blog.  lol.  It was fun getting the guest bedroom and places for the children to sleep all ready.  How lucky are we to have a home big enough to temporarily fit a whole extra family of five in it?!?  The whole thing made me think we could have 5 or 6 children...  just kidding, Dan!

Dan's sister, Stacie, and her family arrived late Tuesday night.  On Wednesday we went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and saw the traveling Mythbusters exhibit.  (Walking vs. running in the rain, cliff hanging, and the dodging a paint ball seemed to be the top 3.)  Life is so much more fun with cousins.  We separated boys and girls in the cars and I'm sure Danny was in pure heaven with no sisters around.  Cinzetti's is even better when you have four adults to man the table, help get food, and take children to the bathroom.  That night the children adjusted the sleeping arrangements.  Since our children were already asleep when the D. family arrived, they were all in their own beds and Talon and Everett sleep on the queen size air mattress and Addy was on Michelle's bottom bunk.  The  rest of the trip (3 nights) Addy slept on a mattress on the floor of Kaelah's room and Danny & Everett shared the air mattress that was drug into Michelle's room and Talon slept on the bottom bunk.  9I about went ballistic when Danny came walking into our room that first night asking for help getting back to sleep.  We reminded him the next night that he had 3 other people in the room with him & he didn't have to come wake us up.  Which he didn't... until he was back being in his room after they left.   It's funny, but it's not.)

On Thanksgiving Day the men proved their worth in the kitchen!  We had a great dinner and tons of leftovers.  They even had a chance to play football with the neighbors after lunch while everything was baking.  It was just so nice to sit at our dinning room table and have it be full of people we adore.  After dinner everyone except Michelle, Natalie, and I went to go see Frozen in the theater and the kids came home with rave reviews.  (We have a rule you have to be 4-years-old to see a movie in the theater.)  We rented Planes from Redbox, which Michelle hadn't seen yet, so it was still a special date with Mommy for her.  (She was very concerned about the WWII scene in the movie so I'm very glad she didn't see it in the theater.  Funny thing is, that was Danny's favorite scene and Skipper became his favorite plane because of it.)

On Friday I was out of commission, probably due to food poisoning.  I ate a dairy free pumpkin pie that no one else did....  In the afternoon while the baby and I napped, the rest of the crew got to go bowling.  Sounds like a great Black Friday tradition to me!  Maybe next year Natalie & I can join in on the fun.

The cousins got along so well.  Talon (7-years-old) seemed to win the prize for baby's favorite.  He was great at getting her to stop fussing and he would sit next to the high chair at meal times.  Michelle loved having Addy to snuggle with.  Kaelah played with Addy and Talon played with Danny and Everett played with Michelle, so it was great for that kind of interaction as well.  After such a pleasant trip I have my hopes up that one of Dan's siblings will bring their family out next year.  Hopefully Trent & Stacie went home with a good report to encourage such behavior.  (:

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
