growing girls

These sisters have been growing and changing so fast this month!  Let's go oldest to youngest:
Kaelah is still loving having a baby sister.  She seems to have come to terms with the fact she has to go to school and it's not just to get rid of her for a couple hours a day.  That, to my surprise, took some convincing.  Long story short, I'm very impressed with her teacher and I'm very grateful for the time change giving us some extra time this morning.  I think it will be much easier to get my night owl to school on time when she doesn't feel rushed.

K's artwork continues to amaze me and those around her.  Sorry it's showing up sideways.  Her attention to detail really makes them something special.  A kindergartener able to even draw the light switches and outlets in her picture of a bedroom when she's not even in the bedroom?  Amazing to me!  I am not as big of a fan of her first school picture.  I had an outfit picked out but she opted to choose her own.  I can also tell she played before having the picture taken because of her hair.  Should I tell her to take her glasses off next time?  It's pretty obvious the prescription in her left eye is a lot stronger than the right.
Oh, and she's reading books to us every night now.  It is still difficult for her, but she manages to do it, even if it takes a bribe or two.  (;

Middle sister is following in big sister's footsteps in the drawing department.  I look at the pictures she has been drawing and can't believe they are drawn by a 3-year-old.   I love how M can give me a huge narrative about her drawings.  For instance, she drew  one for the primary chorister, Blanche, who comes in and does a mini singing time in the nursery on Sundays.  It went something like this, "This is me and this is my singing leader.  We are Mr. Potato heads dressed up like princesses."  I love that she has this HUGE vocabulary and can talk your ear off and then you hear a computer pronounced "compluter" in the middle to remind you she's a preschooler.

Michelle has also made strides in her gross motor skill development.  She rides her balance bike around like a pro now and will attempt to play soccer and softball -- a huge deal to just get her out there and enjoying herself.  Sometimes she gets on her bike and sets off to go around the block without even telling me!  Super scary but I'm proud of her at the same time.  We will have to work on asking permission asap.

On to little sister.  She is 6 months old now, sitting up, and is down to 3 naps a day.  She brings smiles and happiness wherever she goes.  Here she is at her check up being weighed.  I don't think I ever got a picture of that part and the nurse was nice enough to let me capture the shot while she spotted her.

N is eating baby food like crazy cakes.  She'll eat anything if you put enough apple sauce and oatmeal cereal in it.  Her least favorite so far is peaches.  I have a feeling soon she'll be opting for only solid food and only letting me nurse her at night.  I don't have a problem with that at all.

Not only did Katie T. introduce me to a new pumpkin patch, she introduced me to ChewBeads.  They are necklaces made to be teethers and Natalie is one of their newest fans.  It's so handy for a baby who seems to be teething but those teeth just refuse to come out!
Baby is even becoming a social butterfly.  Here she is with neighbors at the pocket park, Sid & McKenzie.

I feel soooo very blessed to be the mom of these little girls.  If you had told me I would be raising 3 girls someday back when I was 18 or 19 I wouldn't have believed you.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
