Farewells

When I feel like I'm about to loose my marbles, I do things to try to cope.  In this case, I asked Margaret to help me throw a party.

It was hard to say good-bye to the L. family.  So hard, in fact, Kaelah and I are going to go visit them for a weekend in September.  Then the E. family came over to say good-bye.  We didn't take any pictures, but I couldn't believe that one of the few strangers Kaelah had warmed up to as a toddler would no longer be living in the same state with us.  They were so cool!

So when I heard that the G. family and the W. family were both moving away within 2 weeks of each other, I had to take drastic action.  Words cannot express how much I am going to miss Chelsea and Sandy and their families.

I was lucky enough to be assigned to be Chelsea's visiting teacher.  She throws the best parties in the world and introduced me to the Hunger Games and Brave.  Those are the only 2 times I've been to a movie theater all year, I'm pretty sure.  She is an amazing artist and we were planning on taking a Disney vacation together.  Luckily they are moving to CA, so now we can stay at their house instead.  I'm sure Dan is going to miss home teaching Tim and I'm so glad Tim treated him and Ryan to golf before leaving town.  Kaelah is sooo sad Kristine is gone.  After church on Sunday she made me write Chelsea a message saying she missed Kris in primary.  Why are all the 4-year-old girls moving away?
Sandy and I were destined to be friends.  She moved into the ward the same month I was called to be the Young Women's president and she soon became the Personal Progress Adviser.  Best PP adviser on the planet, I'm sure of it!  Then she became my visiting teaching companion and then 2nd counselor.  She and Patti R. were really there for me emotionally when I had my last miscarriage.  She is also the only person in the world who can cut my children's hair, especially Danny.  So I may just have to drive to Cheyenne every once in a while when my children need some grooming.  I know Dan will miss Ryan terribly when it comes to playing and watching basketball.  Being the man he is, Dan would probably just tell you "it's gonna suck because our team is going to loose again."  Kaelah just wants to spend time with Hailey so much before she has to say good-bye.  My poor oldest daughter only has one good friend left.  And her dad just got laid off.  Fingers crossed for Kaelah, everyone!  Let's pray Lizzie's family sticks around at least for another year, if not for as long as we do.
A huge shout-out goes to the S. family for hosting the open house I wanted.  I simply called Margaret up and said I wanted to throw a party for the G. & W. families but liked her house more than mine and was wondering if she could help.  Of course she agreed because she is amazing like that.  She is artistic and made the great decorations, including the sign you see behind families for the photo booth we had. She also made a road sign for the front porch and sewed what we would need for the hot hair balloon center pieces.  Me?  Dan helped me make the invitations, I ordered balloons at Party America, a cake at Target, and was lucky enough to find cheap classroom decorations that were Dr. Suess.  Without Margaret and Larry, it wouldn't have been half as good.  I'm so lucky I got to know them through my calling in Young Women's last year.  Thank you again, S. family!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
