After Utah

While away, it was so tempting to want to move to be closer to Dan's family.  But we have a great life right where we are at.  We were reminded of this when Shawna brought over another bag of hand-me-downs the day after we got home.  Kaelah has been begging me to buy her high heels for an entire year now and she finally has a beautiful pair.  I don't think she could have loved Shawna more at that moment.  She made sure to wear them to Reese's (Shawna's daughter's) baptism and open house.  I took lots of mental notes from Shawna as to what I would like Kaelah's baptism to be like in 3 years.  Kaelah is already talking about how she wants to be baptized like how when John the Baptist baptized Jesus, so I'm assuming it is ok to begin thinking about such things already.
Here's the before picture!  Kaelah loved her cousins' Addie and Ali's long hair so much last October when we were there to visit that she was determined to have long hair like them.  I swear her will power made her hair grow faster than it had ever gown before!  Alas, there was a lot of baby hair there and even though I had a blast braiding it, she really needed a hair cut.  We agreed that as soon as her cousins got to see in person how long her hair was, we would come home and Sandy W. would cut it.  Action shot:

We love her new do!  It looks so healthy again!  And, much to my relief and surprise, now that her hair is shorter, she has gotten some of her natural curl back.  We are both super happy about it!  My grandmother, Marguerite, was so excited to know her great-granddaughter was going to have curly hair because my mother and I sure weren't that lucky.  (:
On July 10th Danny & I took Michelle to a pediatric allergist in Boulder while Kaelah had a play date with her friend, Lizzie.  They loved the big stuffed lion in the waiting room and had to say good-bye ot him on the way out.  We briefly spoke of how Danny now swells up if he gets stung by a mosquito and the doctor said to simply keeping pumping him full of Benadryl if it happens again.  Then Michelle was very brave while she was tested for 27 different allergens.  She only tested positive for one thing: elm trees.  What?  My daughter was that miserable this spring because of one tree?  Well, turns out elm trees are alllll over our town.  They grow like weeds.  When our neighbor, Darrell, found out Michelle was allergic to the 5-foot tall elm trees in his back yard, he was aghast and cut them down.  Nice, no?!?  My parents have elm trees in their back yard that are probably 40 feet tall.  I told them I would just give Michelle a bath when we got home, no cutting down necessary.
We've moved Michelle into Danny's room because the girls could not go to sleep in the same room.  Life is much easier now.  I took this picture since I felt that perhaps this was a dream come true -- to have boy and girl twins.  (:  Since then we bought 2 area rugs at Costco ($7.97 each -- cheap!) and hung up a girly flat sheet next to Michelle's bed to help the room seem more like a girl could be in there.  Danny couldn't be happier with his Cars 2 rug and Michelle loves her purple one with flowers and pink ladybugs.  Amazing what less than $20 can do for children... and a room.

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
