Today we got to celebrate a birthday! Here is a picture of the wonderful cake a loving father (aka Daniel or Danny or Dan or Daddy) made. Double layer lemon with 2 layers of lemon pudding & whipped topping made from scratch. Delicious!
5 years ago today a cute little puppy was born. We got to bring her home when she was 8 weeks old -- the day before we moved into our apartment after relocating for Danny's work. She was the 2nd of 6 puppies & the mother had been so worried about the first puppy that the owner had to literally save Meigo's life b/c she wasn't breathing. We had to go through a pretty intense interview to buy her & were warned repeatedly that out of all 6 puppies, she was the one who wanted attention from humans the most. We, being young, thought nothing of that warning. Oh, how wise we feel now! lol.
Yes, that is a slice of birthday cake for the dog! She & Kaelah both ate the cake in the same order: whipped topping, filling, then the cake. So fun to watch. I'm glad my parents were willing to come over to enjoy this evening of honoring our beloved pet. I learned how to spoil a dog from them, you know. (;It's hard to believe Meigo turned 5-years-old today!!! We've experienced so much together. Potty training, dog training, innumerable trips to the lake & even more to the dog park (sometimes a 3 hour trip!). All her digestive problems as a puppy & all that poop she ate! The destructive, Marley & Me type behaviors or running away while we were away & my former constant fear of her turning to road pizza. Meigo was the reason why we bought our house -- she didn't turn out weighing 50 pounds like her mother did & there was a 50 pound limit at the apartment complex. So yes, this is really Meigo's house we live in, thank you very much. Perhaps most importantly, Meigo was always there for us when we came home from the ER or the fertility clinic with more bad news. She is the one who helped us meet new people in a new state when we didn't know a single soul here. She isn't a snuggle dog but always knows when you need her to be close to you. Meigo gave us someone to pour all our time & money into as newlyweds. She truly became our best friend and knows the 2 of us better than any other creature could. She's always the one to spot my out-of-wack blood sugar first, for example. She has brought us a ba-zillion tennis balls & played tug-of-war with Danny hundreds of times. Meigo makes us laugh & grin, especially when she sneezes (always a minimum of 4 in a row). And now, almost 5 years later, she continues to love unconditionally and show the utmost patience with her little sister. We are so lucky to have Meigo in our home & in our lives.
Happy Birthday, Beautiful Dog!!!
P.S. Danny says that even though she keeps bringing dead grass in the house & is just now finally gettting the idea of what to do on a leash, he still loves her. lol.
