A trial of faith

As Danny and Kaelah nap this Sunday afternoon, I'm reading out of the book of Genesis, specifically about Abraham & Sarah. I think my parents gave me a wonderful name & I marvel at how difficult it must have been for my namesake to live as she did. As I read about Abraham's trial to offer up his son Isaac, I marvel at the strength of both of these men (seeing as how Isaac was probably in his 30s & thereby submitted his will to his father's) and how much of a similitude this story brings to us (even geographically)! Although I do not feel to be in the midst of a great trial, I have many friends going through not-so-easy times right now & I thought I would share a couple quotes:

Quote #1:
"The Saints should always remember that God sees not as man sees; that he does not willingly afflict his children, and that if he requires them to endure present privation and trial, it is that they may escape greater tribulations which would otherwise inevitably overtake them. If He deprives them of any present blessing, it is that he may bestow upon them greater and more glorious ones by-and-by."
~George Q. Cannon

I feel truly blessed to have learned on my mission to Taiwan that God does love all of us no matter how different our lives or "trials" may be. He does not leave us helpless. He does not forget us or stop loving us. He is always there, unfailing, all-mighty, and wise beyond our comprehension. I am so grateful to know that Heavenly Father & Jesus Christ understand not only what I have been through, but what is in my future, and love me enough to withhold what I want now in order to give me what I want more later. Thank God for "unanswered" prayers and the loves He shows to us through them.

Quote #2:
"Any reluctance to sacrifice whatever God requires will, to that degree, lessen our ability to have faith in God." ~Joseph Smith

Wow. Now this quote caused some serious inner reflection for me b/c without faith we have nothing! Of course one cannot read about Sarah without knowing she wanted to be a mother for 70 years before her desire came true. Although my wait was soooo much shorter, I am glad that as we try to adopt again, whenever I hear my name I can also hear the name of a righteous woman who had the faith to become a mother in a miraculous way. I am so grateful for all our friends and family who lent us their faith and prayers before we were blessed to adopt Kaelah. If adoption is not a miracle, then I don't know what is.

love it, sarah. that first quote almost made me cry.
Sometimes trials are like getting a shot. It hurts so badly now, but its to keep from hurting even worse later.
I'm printing that quote off, i loved it. thank you!

Thanks for those thoughts Sarah. You truly are amazing. And you are amazing at how you handle the trials of life. Though yours may be more evident, it still stinks. But, your trust in Heavenly Father's plan is truly amazing and admirable. Love you

I'm glad you liked them. I've found a ton a great stuff all over the book of Genesis (& other OT books) using the institute manual. I highly recommend it!

Precious Pumpkin

Our Halloween pictures finally made it to the computer. I won't state the name, but let's just say we know a certain 15-month-old who likes to hide things, especially if they are small & silver like a memory card reader. (: Oh look, here she is now, dressed up as a pumpkin fairy! And check out the super neat pumpkin Danny carved. We actually had neighbors make the effort to come compliment him before trick-or-treating began! I have never experienced a Halloween where families hang out on the porch to hand out candy the entire night! I just can't get over how wonderful the weather has been this fall. If there weren't long term consequences, I could really like global warming. Here's the cute little girl helping to hand out candy. She was a huge hit with the teenage trick-or-treaters. My favorite costume of the night was a guy dressed up as a kissing booth. When Dan asked him if that was working for him he replied, "I got a kiss from a 6-year-old ...

Danny's 1st Year Video

Exactly one year ago today we got a call from our case worker. He told us there was a birth mother thinking of placing her son with us for adoption. Usually he didn't make such phone calls before an official decision was made, but he felt that this little boy was meant for us & we needed a little warning b/c the due date was June 12. Low & behold, 4 days later he called to say Dani had chosen us to be her baby's parents. 2 weeks later, we were bringing Danny home from the hospital. It is difficult to believe Danny's birthday is only 2.5 weeks away. When I look back I feel he & I were a little gipped with me getting pregnant so soon after he was born & becoming a big brother at only 9.5 months, but he is so healthy & happy. There is no way he could have been any better of a baby... I'm convinced he is the easiest/best little guy to have ever graced the planet. We are so blessed. He is truly a joy of a boy.

No check up, but doing great!

The pediatrician thought Kaelah was doing well enough to skip her 15-month check up... but I can't resist a formal update before she turns 16-months-old tomorrow. Of course I'll put this first on the list: Kaelah said her first Chinese word last week! Bi zi for nose -- which she heard for the first time in Hawaii. Looks like I'll have to pick out word #2 soon! Kaelah is selective about the music we listen to now. She'll either say, "no" or begin dancing. We're thrilled she will now fold her arms while we pray over the food & by her crib at night. Kaelah will also say "yummmm" while eating & will give high 5's and knuckles. I think you'll pick up most of the rest from the video. (:
