Snowy Home

Not only did we get to enjoy a beautiful fall, but during the week after Thanksgiving we received a beautiful snow storm that made our home feel truly like Christmas.  The sunrises have been amazing too!

I got to be the one to go to Danny’s first official basketball game of the season in Berthoud.  The games were running late so I got to watch the girls varsity game too.  I was surprised to realize that I knew most of the girls thanks to my 3 high schoolers and working at Altona.  When I told Danny that after the game he said he was surprised I didn’t know all of them.  lol  It was a good game but my son wasn’t allowed to play until the second half because I took him to NYC over Thanksgiving Break.  Oh, well.  Creek dominated and final score ended up being 85-55.  Great way to start the season on the road.  And on the road they kept going with heading to Pueblo for a tournament!  They played 3 games there with 3 wins: 62-38, 67-42 and 53-40.  The second game was on Friday night and that high school had a very professional broadcast that Hubby, Natalie, Kate, Will, Willa and I watched from home.  It was great to cheer on our boys from afar and we felt like we were watching college basketball on tv.  So fun.

While Michelle and her friend, Bess, manned the hiking booth, I “ran” in the Ugly Sweater Fun Run.  I thought it would be a piece of cake to go one mile when I had done well at the 2 mile Turkey Trot but I guess it just wasn’t my day.  That’s all right.  It was a good way to raise money for SCLA and the weather turned out to be much better than we were expecting.  Michelle was right when she told me not to wear snow pants to “run” but I didn’t lesson.  Word to the wise: that girl has a tendency to be right so listen.

My dad and I got to attend the afternoon performance of the Winter Gala.  It is quite the show with all of choir, band, and orchestra together.  So much effort goes into this as a once a year fundraiser and my dad and I enjoyed the product of all that work.  Michelle was there from 1-8:30pm in addition to the rehearsal they had for 3 hours on Wednesday.  I know she doesn’t love it and I agree that choir gets way too much of the spotlight, but I am always game to come watch the Winter Gala.  This year Michelle got to play Romeo and Juliet Overture, The Lord of the Rings, and Believe from the Polar Express.  Believe with all 3 groups working together was so beautiful.  So we got our laughter in with the men’s choir with Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and then almost cried with the finale.  Michelle is happy to be done and my dad and I are happy we went.  Photo courtesy of KT, who had a much better seat and camera than we did.

And here’s yet another hike that this time, Hubby went along with the official chaperone for.  Michelle likes it when a parent can be there to talk with the teachers so they don’t feel left out.  They actually had to do a different trail than planned due to the original being closed due to mud… and went twice as far (4 miles) but they seemed to have a good time getting back into hiking after a break around Thanksgiving.

While Danny’s team beat a high school an hour away, I got to watch Natalie’s first intramural games of the season. Even though she doesn’t have much experience, you can tell she knows what she is supposed to do. I’m proud of her for getting out there. And proud of Danny’s team for remaining undefeated on the road. Can’t believe it will still be weeks until their first home game!

Now the snow has melted but the Christmas lights are still impressive. Michelle, Natalie and I were lucky enough to go ice skating during Longmont Lights but without the crazy parade crowd.  Much more relaxing than Rockefeller Center and way cheaper too. lol  Where was the rest of the family?  Hubby was feeling sick so stayed home, Kate was hanging out with friends and quite frankly would be fine if she never went ice skating again, and Danny was at his girlfriend’s family birthday dinner.  He said it went well and the food was really good!  Those two are so cute together!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
