Adventure Awaits

The end of the school year seemed to come too fast for me this year.  I suppose it didn't feel quite right because I began the school year a month late due to my surgery.  The above photo is from some 8th graders pranking our SRO and it was so funny.  Our SRO through it was hilarious too so I was sure to send him the photo as well.  I will miss the 8th graders so very much, especially the ones I got to take to science class, social studies class, and lunch.  Natalie donated stuffed animals for me to give them as goodbye presents and they even took them to lunch that day.  I am truly lucky that I can work where I do and work part time so that I can show up at my best and still be the wife, mom, and daughter I want to be.

That being said, I still completely forgot to take photos before the last day of school!  The thought didn't even cross my mind until I checked Instagram later, no joke.  I did catch a picture of Natalie and some of her friends at the last day of school picnic and Danny let me take a photo of him after school but Kate was off at a pool with friends and Michelle was volunteering at the BMES 5th grade celebration.  50% is not a passing grade but it's too late now!  And how cute it this mask photo from Natalie spending the night at A's house the last day of school?

My children are so relieved to have finals week over with and grades finalized.  All of them were happy with their results.  Between all of them I can tell you that then most common grade was an A, at least for the girls!  We have been enjoying more time to do things like bake,  do yard work, make dinner, and watch movies.  Luckily our extra time also allowed to visit our local Cafe Rio one more time before it closes!  Boo hoo!  The weather has been amazing this spring, allowing flowers to bloom and stay around like nothing I have seen in recent memory here.  When I walk the dog the neighborhood smells so good too!  Not pictured: There were plenty of parties to go to this weekend with four high school grad parties and my first ever gender reveal party.  Each one was so different and I enjoyed that and being able to chat with friends.  Some of us did agree we loved the idea of a gender reveal party and our hosts did such a good job  but we were glad that wasn't a thing when our babies were born.  I'm also thinking I don't want to throw 4 grad parties someday until less they are part of a group.  I'm pretty sure I could pay Danny to not have one and convince the girls to have group ones but time will only tell what happens.  Kate will be a senior in the fall and then we will have three in a row.  Luckily Michelle volunteered at the graduation ceremony this year so we will know what to expect for next year.  Even the ceremony requires more planning than I thought!  That night Michelle got to attend a concert with her friend, B.  She loved the venue and enjoyed her time listening to music and seeing the show.

Our first weekend of summer vacation was dominated by the sewing machine we borrowed from our public library.  Last Memorial Day weekend we had gotten t-shirt quilts ready to be sent off and made for Kate and Danny and loved the results but some of the children's t-shirts were too small to professionally be made.  So we saved them and finally made a combination was all 4 children's shirts into a quilt.  We had never done anything like this before but are happy to have this done after having it on the to do list for a year.  Thank goodness Danny had some jeans he wanted to turn into jorts to get this ball rolling.

This week has been rainy so I feel like we are back in pandemic mode doing projects, baking everyday, watching too many You Tube videos and if there is one more day of rain I'm getting out a puzzle to put together.  Kate has been a champ beginning her summer job at a farm in the rain.  I think it is a confidence boost for her to have a job where she will be getting real paychecks instead of the Venmo babysitting, tutoring, and driving she has been doing the last year.  She even got to bring home some of the CSA produce and this stuff is high quality!  Hubby announced to the entire house that Kate was now officially contributing to the family and everyone should take note. lol

Thursday the rain let up long enough to dry out the field and let Natalie play softball in what felt like the first time in a long time. Hubby texted me that their uniform combo of purple and green made them think of Barney the dinosaur. Lol. While they were at her game I got to watch Danny play basketball with the high school league. Only about half of the varsity boys and neither coach was available to play so we knew it would be interested to see what happened during those back to back games.  The C team coach came through and brought a couple of his players with him and all three of them did such a good job!  Those 7 boys played hard and both games were close the entire time. That first game was great and ended 50-51.  They were so tired going into the second game and then L got such a bloody nose we were worried it might be broken. So they had 6 boys playing most of that second game. I was impressed they hung in there so well and our team really would have beat the other team if we had just had one or two more players to give our boys a rest.  Final score was 30-31 but no one was complaining about the losses.  Yes, they could have made more of their free throws and layups but they played hard!

Not pictured: Kate at work and Michelle going bowling with the Young Women that same night, so the 6 of us were in 4 different places at once. Not the first time, not the last.

The next day I was not surprised that Danny and Kate wanted to stay home and recover from basketball and work instead of joining Michelle, Natalie and I hiking at RMNP. We hiked Deer Mountain for the first time. Moderate level over 6 miles long, taking hours to complete but totally worth it for the challenge and the view. We were lucky that the rain held off until we were back in the truck. I had bet the girls cherry pie on the way home that there would be a sign at the top to tell us the elevation (10,000 feet) but I was wrong so had to pay for the pie. I hear the pie was delicious!

Homecoming 2025

The tail end of summer has been so much fun.  The weather has been fantastic and we've all had special occasions to look forward to.  First up, a family party for Natalie's softball team that included pizza, whiffle ball, and seeing the girls just have a good time together as a team. Here's my favorite photo from when Michelle helped her friend, A, celebrate her 16th birthday.  Although she has been friends with A & Z since her time at the Waldorf school, Michelle ended up hanging out with a lot of strangers and had a wonderful time.  I love seeing her branch out and make new connections while maintaining her core friend group. Homecoming week included a BBQ, Powder Puff game and drone show, parade past the middle school where I was volunteering at the Rattler Run, plus a very exciting football game that even Hubby attended by being one of the basketball parents to man the concession stand. Danny did a great job tossing candy instead of throwing it and the basket...

45

I feel spoiled. My parents and our whole family around a dinner table was perfection. Hubby provided roses & a grilled steak, roasted potatoes, and fresh salad dinner complete with chocolate cake (decorated by Michelle).  My mom and dad bought me sweet and thoughtful gifts (including a mug Natalie had painted when my mom took her to Crackpots this summer) and even stayed to watch K Pop Demon Hunters in the basement. We thought it would be hilarious to watch them watch something so different from their favorite shows. They did not disappoint. It was a joyful evening that made me feel much better about turning 45 than I felt earlier in the day.  Below you’ll find what I had written before we celebrated.  Photo credit goes to Kate! 10 Years Ago I filled out interview questions for my 35th birthday and 5 years ago I did the same, adding 5 more questions.  I really don't think I should add 5 more every year because this is probably already too much information for an...

Adventures Begin

Michelle had been saving her money for years. She didn’t know exactly what for, but it turns out she used that money to travel with a group from her high school to Asia!  When people asked me at the end of the school year what I was excited for this summer, the first thing I would think of is Michelle’s trip to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam!  We loved getting texts and photos almost everyday and were able to FaceTime her a couple times.  She had quite the range of experiences from museums and treasures such as Angkor War to cooking classes and time on the water to learning how to fold flowers for offerings at famous Buddhas, and even hanging out with rats that sniff out landmines to be properly disposed of.  We are absolutely thrilled for her! While Michelle was in Asia, Hubby and Kate worked and Kate hung out with friends doing things like paddle boarding (it is great to hear her work stories!), Natalie and I watched the Women’s College World Series when we weren’...
